Never-Say-Die-mondbacks

D-Backs, who were getting WAXED by the Dodgers 7-0, just hit ANOTHER bottom of the 9th grand slam and it's now 7-4, with just one out. This follows last nights epic comeback after giving up 5 in the top of the 10th but winning 7-6 on Ryan Roberts' walk-off grand slam.

This is a fun team to watch, and they NEVER say die... :coffee:

So Cole Gillespe hits the grand slam, and Henry Blanco goes back-back and it's now 7-5 still with just one out.

If this happens to the Dodgers twice in a row, Don Mattingly might go jump off an overpass into oncoming traffic on I-10!

I don't know what the playoffs will hold for a team this young - but Snakes fans have a lot to be excited about... Gibby is the NL Manager of the Year (LaRussa a VERY close second)

I wanted Gibby 3 years ago when they hired Finch. His hard-nosed attitude would have had this team in the playoffs back THEN. I will tell you one thing: the Diamondbacks play for all 27 outs. They NEVER stop until they have no outs left. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

What I like - his ego isn't so big that he is afraid to bring in other big names for his staff - Charles Nagy, Matt Williams, etc... could overshadow him - but he doesn't seem to care - put a staff of guys who have won before with a group of kids - get them to buy in - and here's the result. Kudos.

And you didn't even mention the BEST two additions to his staff, IMHO:

Don Baylor - the classic hitting coach, got rid of the strikeout/go for it all mentality and instilled a "put the ball in play and put pressure on the defense" mentality.
Eric Young - Supreme base stealer in his prime, the D-Backs stolen bases skyrocketed this year with him coaching/teaching out there at first base. Their aggressiveness worked perfectly in that "pressure on the defense" mentality" that the whole team embraces.

It's a great young team, a proven, veteran coaching staff, a no nonsense manager and a genius of a GM. A great combination. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
