Ellsbury!

18 games last year due to injuries. Comes back, hits 32 HR 39 SB, lead league in XBH, batted over .320, GG defense in CF.

While the award certainly can be given to a guy who simply had a down year the previous year, only once has the award gone to someone who was not coming back from missing significant time the previous season.

On top of that, for Shields, his 2011 season was more of an emergence than a comeback, as he has never been as statistically good as he was this season.

I'm not sure about the rest of it, but I think I heard this week that Verlander was a unanimous selection for the AL Cy. I also think I heard something about Maddon winning MOY, but I'm not so sure about that one.
