he who wins the post-season always wins the championship... just look at history

2011 Philadelphia Eagles
2011 Philadelphia Phillies
2010 Miami Heat
2004 Yankees

I could go on, but do I really have to?

 don't rain on our PARADE, we get plenty down here as it is. And at least the Heat won the conference championship...what did the Phillies win? Honestly, if we could win our FIRST NL East title that would be awesome as well.

Pujols (whatever his real age is) contract will be an albatross that makes the Mauer deal look reasonable.

Ramirez, Reyes, Stanton, Pujols is not a lineup I'd like to face - but if their ballpark plays as big as it's purported... that could be an issue...

so that means a third fire sale? Of course as a Rays fan I really can't talk.

your prediction just became a bit more believable...buerle to marlins on 4 year contract.

The real issue with the ballpark is the federal investigation into its funding. I wonder if the feds will let the Marlins play games in it after they seize it.

From ESPN...
If the Marlins can clear the payroll, they will pursue Milwaukee Brewers free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder.

I'm sorry the Marlins probably won't even come close to winning their division. RIGHT NOW, I say the favorites to come out of the National League are the Cardinals (defending champs) and Phillies. And the favorites to come out of the American League are the Angels, Rangers, Yankees, Red Sox.

Well FWIW, I put them in the order of most likely. I think RIGHT NOW the Angels are the heavy favorites to at least come out of the American League. As for the NL if the Marlins can manage to sign Prince Fielder I'll think differently....

Cardinals without Pujols = no playoffs. Unless they can sign Fielder

So one players takes a team from a world series championship to no playoffs at all?! :? Sorry, not buying it.

Fish lucked out... someone is going to massively overpay for Pujols... and that contract will be an albatross of Mauer-like proportions...

Fielder is the value pick here... while Pujols' defense right now is far superior... Prince brings similar production and is at LEAST 4 years younger... (if you believe Alberts Dominican birth certificate...)

I also agree with Jon... the Cards without Albert are a middle of the pack team in the Central...

Well - that combined with LaRussa's retirement... Mike Matheny won't last long term... (never follow a legend - unless you are in financial dire straits like Matheney was)

Addendum - the Marlins HAVE overpaid for Reyes, Bell and Buehrle... (shame on Buehrle... really wanted him in a Twins uniform...)

They go from a team that only qualified for the playoffs because of an epic collapse by the Braves to a team that will not qualify at all for the playoffs.

If Fielder signs outside of the NL Central, the Cards will win the division. Brewers without Fielder are worse obviously. Then you have the Reds, Pirates, Astros, and the Cubs. You guys really think these teams will finish above the Cards even without Pujols? Oh, and there's a wild card that no one seems to remember:

The Cards will welcome back their ace, Adam Wainwright. So let's hear the rebuttal. :stir:
