There's a report out of Japan that the Red Sox have made the highest posting bid for Seibu Lions SS Hiroyuki Nakajima and that the Lions have accepted the bid. The official announcement of who won the bid will be announced tomorrow.

Boston is also thought to be prepared to bid on Yu Darvish once he is posted and that the mixed results of Daisuke Matsuzaka won't scare them away.

UPDATE: Last night several Red Sox beat writers shot down the rumor and went so far as to say the Sox didnt even make a bid. Late this morning a new report surfaced saying the Yankees were the team who won the posting for Nakajima.

Does the bid include regular servicing by yourself, Travis?

Outside of Ichiro there hasn't been a Japanese player worth 1/4th of the money that has been spent on them.

Hideki Matsui.

Other than those two... you are correct.

Yu Darvish still intrigues me...

What kind of money did Matsui get? He was a very productive player, but I never assumed he got paid massive money.

Several Red Sox beat writers are reporting that the Sox never made a bid let alone won.

The posting cost was only around 2 million and the Yankees view him as a utility player and because of that dont think he will sign because of the low contract value they will have in negotiations. So its not an expensive gamble if he does sign.
