Barry Bloom Is An Idiot

He posted his HOF ballot and this is who he chose to vote for:
Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Rafael Palmeiro, Tim Raines, Lee Smith and Alan Trammell.
Now personally there are some names there I wouldn't vote for, and a name or two that it would take some convincing but I could end up seeing my self vote for.
But this guy goes on to explain the omission of one name:
But he also fails to point out that Bagwell hit those extra 170 or so home runs in 1,000 less at bats. He also fails to show that Bagwell had a on base average 80 points higher... At the end of the day, the two players are no where close to being similar, Bagwell is clearly the better player, by a lot. And while I know many people feel Bagwell should be lumped into the same class as Palmeiro, Bonds, Ramirez and so on as cheaters, lets remember, this guy on his ballot voted for two players who little doubt remains actually cheated and we can probably be sure he will vote for Bonds, Ramirez and so on when they finally appear on the ballot.
But this is where this story gets good. Bloom's argument that he didn't vote for Bagwell because he is merely the same player who Garvey was and since Garvey wasn't a Hall of Famer, no way is Bagwell... except for the fact, that Bloom voted for Garvey and he proudly admits that he did.
So Bloom says they are similar players, felt Garvey was a Hall of Famer but Jeff Bagwell isn't simply because he is nothing more than Garvey.

First of all one number jumps out as not even close to similar and thats the home runs. And just a note on Jeff Bagwell: Rumors about possible steroid use don’t bother me. I just think he’s a very good player, but not of Hall of Fame caliber. His numbers are very similar to Steve Garvey — Bags .297 batting average to .294 for the Garv, 2,314 hits to 2,599, 449 homers to 272, 1,529 RBIs to 1,308 . But Garvey had two NL Championship Series MVPs, an NL MVP, an All-Star MVP, the longest consecutive game playing streak in NL history (1,207), one of the highest fielding percentages as a first baseman (.996) and an errorless season (1984). Garvey also played on five NL pennant winners and a World Series winner in ’81 with the Dodgers. Bagwell did almost none of this with the Astros. And Garvey didn’t get a sniff from the writers for the HOF.
That’s why I didn’t vote for Bagwell.
