Anyone seen this documentary on Versus (NBCCS) in the last week? I caught it last night in lieu of the BCS Championship, and if you like hockey (and/or history) it's awesome.
It's about the 8 game Team Canada vs Soviet Union series in 1972 where NHL players first competed against the, ahem, "amateurs" from the Soviet Union who typically dominated the Olympics and World Championships. I remember the series well, but I didn't know until last night how much national identity was riding on the series for Canada.
Great footage of the games and interviews with players from both sides. It's showing again Thursday night at 9:30.

A well done documentary....very entertaining.89Hen wrote:Saw the preview during the Winter Classic and watched it that night. Those guys were unbelievable. I really don't remember Phil Esposito's off-ice persona. He was Joe Namath on ice. Was an extremely entertaining show.
I remember that series...loved hockey...and everyone was stunned (but secretly happy) about Bobby Clarke's chop to the ankle.
And who knew...if you look at Trumpet Man, you'd never guess he was that old.
