Hall of Fame Worthy? Discuss....
Re: Jorge Posada Retires
Anyone who ever played for the Yankees is HOF-worthy. Didn't you get the memo?

He will get in. Hell, you only have 85 years to get into the HOF of baseball. What a joke. If you don't get selected by the 3rd time your name appears on the ballot you don't get in.Bill Lumbergh wrote:Posada sits at #9 on the all time HR list for catchers, past Roy Campanella. He'll get consideration for sure.

No.
Re: Jorge Posada Retires
He is a catcher, so that should help him.
However, the fact that he's a Yankee is what dooms him, since Yankees are held to different standards than other former players.
Posada's HOF monitor score is 98. A likely HOFer scores 100 on the HOF monitor score. So Posada is close and would get consideration if he played for any other team than the Yankees. I say this because a score of 130 or more is considered a "lock" for the HOF. There are only two former players without steroid taint eligible for the Hall who have a score of 130 or more who have not been elected to the Hall of Fame: Don Mattingly and Bernie Williams.
Pretty apparent that different standards get applied to Yankees.

BTW, Steve Garvey is at 130 too. Double liar.

Kirby Puckett's stats are inferior to Mattingly, and yet Puckett was elected on the first ballot.

But as to Garvey, I shoudl have said "more than 130." A score of more than 130 is considered a lock. Garvey is at 130.
(Although I've always said Garvey belongs )

Re: Jorge Posada Retires
Really? When did Steve Garvey (score of 130) play for the Yankees? OR was he tainted by steroids?JoltinJoe wrote:There are only two former players without steroid taint eligible for the Hall who have a score of 130 or more who have not been elected to the Hall of Fame: Don Mattingly and Bernie Williams.

How about Edgar Martinez (130)? Larry Walker (147)? Jeff Bagwell (150)?
I must have missed those trades to the Yankees...

Re: Jorge Posada Retires
Yes, catchers are measured against each other in their era and not against other players. Ivan Rodriguez and Mike Piazza are certainly ahead of him. But he has 5 AS appearances, 5 Silver Sluggers, finished 3rd and 6th in MVP voting, and 5 Rings. I think it is close, but probably no cigar.
Re: Jorge Posada Retires
I think Walker and Bagwell have steroid suspicions. But both will eventually make it, I think.AZGrizFan wrote:Really? When did Steve Garvey (score of 130) play for the Yankees? Neither Martinez or Garvey's HOF is more than 130.

BTW, the real travesty is Dick Groat. He is the only player with more than 100 named Dick that hasn't gotten in.

ANd I suspect Posada and Williams of using steroids.JoltinJoe wrote:I think Walker and Bagwell have steroid suspicions. But both will eventually make it, I think.AZGrizFan wrote:
