Boston College fired Jeff Jagodzinski on Wednesday, one day after he interviewed for the New York Jets coaching job.
Athletic director Gene DeFilippo had warned Jagodzinski on Saturday that his job would be in jeopardy if he went through with the Jets interview. Jagodzinski met with the Jets on Tuesday night.
"As I said before, Jeff has done a wonderful job here," DeFilippo said in a joint statement with Jagodzinski released before a scheduled news conference. "Today's action relates to a difference of vision for the future.
"A coach of his talents and personality will have many future opportunities and I am certain of his continued success."
In the statement, Jagodzinski thanked school officials.
