OFFICIAL 2012 Phillies "Wait till October" thread

With the beginning of play yesterday against Florida State (6-1 victory) it's time to re-charge & focus attention towards the Fightin's.

As has been learned the past 3 seasons - now till October is nothing more than a sideshow. With MLB imminently poised to add yet another playoff team there really isn't any discussion as to whether the Phils are among the 5 best NL teams.

It all comes down to October - that you're healthy, your rotation is set, and you're playing good to hot baseball. Just making the playoffs isn't good anymore, it's having a parade - there is NO other expectation.

Enjoy the spring, enjoy the 162 - whether we win 100+ or somewhere in the 90's - just set up a Red October!

The Phillies left MLB for the NCAA? I guess that opening round loss to the 2011 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals was more devastating than I thought.

Eh, it's in the past. Just like how Pujols leaving was pretty devastating to the Cards as well. 2011 was last year, I'm not worried about the Cards this year. But I do agree that we should watch out for the Nats - up and comers and might be the second best team in the division.

Watch out for the Nats how? They're not going to finish ahead of the Phils so what am I supposed to watch? I have a hard time taking a team too seriously that says before the season they're limiting their "franchise pitcher" to 160IP this year & then he's done no matter what team implications it may have.

Does Jayson Werth hit .230 this season?

Beltran + Wainwright > Pujols.

It wasn't Pujols who kicked your ass.

And Beltran won't either. :thumb:

Ah yes, the Nationals. The team that won't allow its tickets to be sold to PA, NJ, or DE addresses so that Phillies fans don't outnumber pathetic Washington fans in their own stadium by a ration of 10:1. And then, a story breaks just two days ago that the Nationals are now refusing to honor deposits already put down by Phillies fan groups: http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/2/28/28305 ... -fan-group

Seriously, the Nationals, and Washington DC sports fans in general, are shallow and pathetic. I take great joy in the fact that all four of their sports teams suck.

160 > the 24 he pitched last year. He's worth 5-10 extra wins. Hopefully Zimmerman will stay healthy and give them more than the 100 games he playes last year. Making the playoffs would be a huge step for them and they could do just that this year.

haha you want to trash talk? How about you wouldn't have been in the playoffs if the phils didn't let you in. You can thank that world series championship on the phils sweeping the braves at the end of september. :kisswink:

That only proves that the Cardinals were a hell of a lot better than either the Phillies or Braves. A lot of teams beat the Braves down the stretch. The Cards did what they had to do and the Braves didn't.

Yeah, they were so good they couldn't even win their division. Keep digging that hole.

Chris Carpenter did and he's back!

My top 5 or 6 for the NL right now would be Phillies, Cardinals, Braves, Brewers, Giants, Diamondbacks

Then why didn't the mighty Phillies beat them?

I didn't realize you had to win your division to be good. Interesting. I guess the NY Giants are no good either...

Yankees may eventually field the all "a" starting pitching staff:

Sabathia
Nova
Pineda
Kuroda
Garcia

With Hughes' "tired arm" issue last year, I like the idea of putting him back into the 8th inning set up role with that devastating cutter he learned from Rivera, and eventually set him to take over the closer role when Rivera retires (which may be at the end of this season).

Agree on Hughes. He is still young, but he has to put together a solid year soon or he will be banished to the NL.

Are we really going to do this again? How many times do I have to say the best team in baseball rarely wins the WS nowadays. Go look at the 2008 phillies roster and please explain to me how that team won a championship and the ones since haven't? We had freaking Jamie Moyer as a starter. How pathetic was baseball if the phils won with a 50 year old on the mound? Simple: they were the hottest team at the right time.

If the best team doesn't win the WS, then why do you give a shit about it?

b/c the playoffs is where the unexpected happens! I love the MLB, NFL, and NCAAB playoffs b/c you have no clue who's going to win it all. That's why I believe there should be two trophies awarded: one for regular season champ in each league (MLB/NFL) and the other for playoff champ. I think soccer has that somewhere but not 100% sure. :thumb:
