Fantasy Baseball - Keeper advice sought

alright gang... I've got to decide who to keep in my high-stakes league ($100 entry/year) 15 team league, 25 man rosters.

We keep 3 at the end of the season (and the whole thing resets every 3 years) - league tends to overvalue pitching

My team at the end of last season included a group of guys I'd consider keeping... I've narrowed it to:

Joe Mauer
Eric Hosmer
Jacoby Ellsbury
Hanley Ramirez
Michael Morse
Matt Cain
Ubaldo Jimenez
James Shields
John Axford

My gut goes one of two ways:
build an epic rotation and keep Shields, Cain and Jimenez
go for balance and scarcity and keep Shields, Ellsbury and Mauer

The other option I like is Sheilds, Cain and either Ellsbury or Mauer

I know Mauer is a wicked injury risk - but when he's on - he so thoroughly overperforms the C position that I hesitate to let him go.

So - I offer it to the collective wisdom (or whatever) of the board... your thoughts?

With mauer accepting the part time first base role he should* stay healthier this year. If s solid backup for mauer can be found and morneau is good with dhing part time it should be a much better year.

Mauer and Morneau split 1b and dh time along with joe catching is killer.

Rameriz, Ells, Cain

I'd take Mauer if I thought he could stay healthy and hit more than 20 home runs again.

No way Hanley sucks it up again and playing both SS/3B gives you one helluva player at 2 positions that lack

Ramirez, Ells, Cain
^^^^^This^^^^^

Ells and Ramirez are 1st/2nd rounders and you need to keep them no matter what. The third pick is up to you, but I suggest Cain b/c he's your #1 SP. You can find other catchers who are safer later on in the draft like miguel montero or alex avila. Never keep closers so Ax gets the ax. And if you want to have shields, I suggest choosing him with your first pick. Hope that helps. :thumb:

great advice all

Hanley's two position eligibility makes him killer.

I just am so hard pressed to let Shields go - he was incredible last season. I draft 8th and worry he won't be there.

And if pigs had wings they could fly.

Mauer is probably the LAST guy on that list I'd keep in a keeper league.

I'd keep Hanley Ramirez, Matt Cain and James Shields from that list.

You don't have ANY better hitters than Cain and Ramirez?

Ellsbury ad Ramirez were my best hitters (points-wise)

my rotation was my strength
Cain, Shields, Ubaldo, Mike Minor and a flavor of the week with Axford closing

I had Michael Morse as a hitter along with hosmer... but I traded Joey Votto for Hanley and Shields. (still feel I got the better of that deal)

What a :dunce: I am. I meant better hitters than Ellsbury and Ramirez. I still say keep Ramirez, Cain and Shields.

That's the way I'm leaning - high output from outfielders is easier to come by than Ramirez's 2 position infield spots... added to that - he'll be well protected in that Marlins lineup.

Having two elite starters trumps all in my league...
