More on the scam that is the FBS bowl system

Saw this linked on the McNeese Delphi board:

Among other things, LSU had to pay $182,830 to be at the game.
As I posted in response to the guy who provided the link, it drives me crazy when people say that a FBS playoff system has to incorporate the bowls (though I guess they couldn't call it FBS anymore if it didn't). It doesn't. The only consideration should be designing the best tournament possible and if it means the bowls aren't involved that's the way it is. Some cities would lose something. Others would gain something. And I'd shed no tears for the people affiliated with the bowls themselves.
Me, I think the best tournament would involve playing all games except for the championship game at home fields of one of the participating teams in each pair like the NFL does. Screw the bowls.
