NFL legend Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA ... and cops are investigating a shooting ... multiple law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Seau was 43-years-old ... and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife.

Cops are currently at Seau's home -- located in San Diego County -- and were seen talking with a man who was inside the house and appeared distraught.

We're told Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and 3 kids yesterday saying, "Love you." We're told they all responded and didn't suspect anything was wrong.

Sources close to Seau tell us family members didn't see any signs of depression in recent weeks.

I have an autographed picture of him and me, and one of him and my oldest son (when he as about 1 or 2).
(My sister-in-law knew him while she worked at his restaurant in SD)
The beauty of it was that he was wearing a USC sweatshirt. :thumb:

Yes I'll say he was the 8th member of that Chargers super bowl squad that perished according to reports.

Seau is the eighth member of the Chargers’ 1994 Super Bowl team (a 45-man roster) to pass away.

A few months after the Super Bowl loss to the 49ers, David Griggs was killed while driving drunk.

In 1996, Rodney Culver and his wife were among the 110 people killed in a ValuJet plane crash.

In 1998, Doug Miller died after being struck twice by lightning on a camping trip, the second time, apparently, while CPR was being performed.

In 2008, center Curtis Whitley, only 39, was found dead in Fort Stockton, Texas, apparently of an accidental overdose.

Later that year, defensive lineman Chris Mims died in Los Angeles of an enlarged heart.

In February of last year, Shawn Lee, who had suffered from diabetes for years, died of a heart attack brought on by double pneumonia.

This past December, linebacker Lew Bush died of a heart attack at 42.

Today, Seau died from what the North County Times reports was a self-inflicted gunshot.

That's got to be the most ironic way to die, considering the team he played for. :?

Sad to see one of the best, if not the best Charger linebacker go out like this. Aside from his on the field achievements, he was involved in many charitable organizations and is well respected within the San Diego community. I was shocked to hear he did this and am sad to see him go out this way. He had so much to live for.

RIP Junior Seau #55.
