Joe Paterno's Punishment

He's dead and gone, but with all the evidence coming out, if he were alive, he could have been charged and convicted of child endangerment, perjury and conspiracy. The one punishment that would due him service, would be to have his name stricken from the record books. Let the school and players keep their records, wins and championships, but insert vacant for the coach. What happened at State Penn, is worse than what most, if not all schools/athletes, that have received severe NCAA punishments. Removing his legacy would be the best punishment for Sandusky's Boss.

Yet the boys lives he helped ruin can't be repaired...

That makes more sense than taking Joe's name out of a record book. But... either way, you aren't punishing Joe, like Generalissimo Francisco Franco, he's still dead.

Post Edit: Something that was not classy by me.

They won't be suing the estate to punish Joe, they'll sue the estate because they want money. Besides, suing the estate won't punish his legacy anymore than has already been done.

What happened over the years at Penn St is beyond evil. Protect the brand at any cost . How many kids were ruined by this. At the very least take down Jo Pa's statue and melt it .

I think the statue has to come down and any buildings named after him should be renamed.

We should also dig Paterno up and put his corpse in the stockade to punish him.

I still think the NCAA taking away games/championships is a dumb rule. You can't change the past by just pretending it never happened. That's why I'm in favor of keeping the statue up and having his name still around the university. But I would move the statue into a building where the history of the school is kept (if there is one). We should never try to delete the past no matter how terrible it was, but rather learn from it.

The games and records happened and should not be ignored. Leave them be.

On the other hand a statute or building name is there to honor someone. If the person is not worthy of honor then he shouldn't have a statue or building named after him.

But his family will have to live with the shame of knowing what he allowed that animal to do to those young children and sit back and do nothing just to protect the name of the institution that gave him his official start in coaching.

So we punish families now? If one of your relatives commits a crime do you think you should be held accountable?

Random question; could I spend the night in your basement tonight? I hear you have all kinds of cool memorabilia and shit down there.

Of course not but this country plays a game called Guilt by Association and unfortunately his family will have to suffer the brunt of what went on while he was alive.

And how does that punish Joe Pa? Like I said in my original point, he's dead, you can't punish him. Not sure what your point about the family has to do with that.

Of course you can't punish a dead person's body or mind. Isn't it wonderful that when someone asks which head coach lead his team to the most victories in major college history, it will be Joe Paterno. All this crap happened with his knowledge, and a couple generations from now it may be Joe Paterno still on top of the record book lists, and all that crap will not be known by future generations that passively look at the lists, and think what a great coach he must have been, unless they research Paterno's past. IMO, this is worse than paying players and giving gifts.

I never said anything about punishing Paterno just stating that his family will have to live with the knowledge he allowed these acts of sexual depravity by Sandusky to go unpunished.Everytime somebody from the media sees a member of his family this uncomfortable subject will be brought to their attention and their is nothing they will be able to do about it!!!

That's the way it goes Gil. You can't rewrite history just because a hero falls from grace.

Benedict Arnold was one of our greatest leaders during the Revolutionary war. All he is remembered for now is being a traitor. Paterno holds the wins record, it's a fact that can't be changed, but all people will remember him for is the Sandusky incident.
