Congratulations to the Montreal Blitz, which was able to hang on to win the IWFL World Championship 28-27 despite a furious Sacramento Sirens comeback from 28-14. Julie Shockley scored her fourth touchdown of the day just after the two-minute warning to reduce the margin to one, only to see Montreal block the ensuing PAT. The Montreal quarterback threw four touchdown passes to snag the MVP award. Blitz receiver #56 (that's NOT a typo) destroyed the Sirens defense all night long. I can't get their names because the win has exploded their website; I get a "bandwidth exceeded" error message.
The Blitz finish 11-0, while the Sirens drop to 9-2.
In today's other games, the Carolina Queens won the Tier III (new teams) title 18-0 over the Colorado Sting, while the Carolina Phoenix shut out the Portland Shockwave to win the Tier II (roughly second-place teams) Founders Bowl 27-0. That's TWO IWFL titles for the state of North Carolina.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
