Shannon Eastin, who has spent time officiating high school and college games, will be part of the replacement crew officiating Thursday’s Packers-Chargers game. Eastin has worked Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games

Too late, he already creamed his Siren-themed tighty-whities.

I thought the NFL already had at least one female ref?

I remember her as the head referee for the HU @ BC game on ESPN last season. Her officiating was unmemorable (which is a good thing), but she stuttered a lot when announcing penalties.

The rest of the football world will get to see how bad MEAC officiating is. Too bad it will be clouded by the gender issue.

The best part is the !!!!!'m at the end. Those keys are nowhere near each other on the keyboard, so he actually meant to do that.

We have to be getting trolled. It's the only explanation.

That's what I thought. Meanwhile, I thought of this.

This woman is absolutely terrible. I watched a Norfolk State- Hampton game (I think) and she destroyed the whole game.

She made MEAF REFS look bad...think about that for a second...

Why do I think that this is only a ploy so they don't have to use female refs in the future?

Given that this will be her first season (however long it lasts) in the NFL, I highly doubt that she'll be a ref or even an umpire. She'll probably be a line judge or a back judge or something like that. Heck, I'd consider umpire even LESS likely than ref given the usual position near the mike (though the NFL has started toying with that lately).

Told ya so.

Shannon was line judge, NOT ref. BTW, there's no such thing as "head ref," though the ref IS the equivalent of baseball's crew chief. There is only one ref.

Yes, Shannon is a referee in the MEAC, but she was line judge here.

I didn't get to see the game since I don't have cable, but the article I saw indicated that not much went in her direction until late. Shannon had to break up a fight on a punt return, and threw her flag a long way on a holding call. She got booed in the fourth quarter after she flagged a Charger for PI, though the article said that replays showed that she was right. She also signalled a TD each way.
