Baseball Triple Crown Repeat in 2013?

Miguel Cabrera has a chance in the AL. He is 2nd in batting, 2nd in HR's and first in Runs Batted In. My first memories of baseball are my 1967 baseball cards showing Frank Robinson as the leader on all 3 AL batting leader cards. Koufax was the same with the NL pitching leader cards. That year Carl Yastrzemski won the Triple Crown again, so to me it looked like a regular thing. Well it hasn't happened since. If Miguel wins, he will be the 2nd Hispanic player to win the triple crown. The pitching triple has been won 10 times since Koufax in 1966.

If the A's start hitting, Daniel Straily will be a legitimate threat to win the pitching triple crown in 2013....

They need to play the Twins more often. The game I went to, MN vs Oak, Oakland had 4 HR's and won big.

Not going to happen. So many things have to go right it's almost impossible. You think he's up there with Verlander and King Felix already?

Given his 175 strikeouts before his callup, YES!

Maybe it's naive of me, but I've given up hope of seeing the triple crown in baseball. Or I'd at least wager we'll see one in horse racing before a hitter does it.

MIguel is 1st in Batting, 2nd in Homers and 1st in RBI on September 19th.
Needs a big stretch run to get it.

He's at 40, Josh Hamilton is at 42.
Hamilton is day-to-day with sinus and vision issues.

Cabrera pulls within 1 of Hamilton with his 41st tonight. Still leads in batting and RBI.

After tomorrow, all of his remaining games are against the Royals and Twinks.

Any chance those guys cheese out and give Cabrera the Bonds Treatment? I hope not!

Not sure what you mean about the Bonds treatment.
Cabrera hits 42nd HR to tie Hamilton, 6 points up in batting and 8 up in RBI.

It goes back a bit further than Bonds, but it got tagged to him because people did it to him so much. It's an intentional walk whenever he comes up, sometimes even when it moves people up on the bases. I even saw Bonds get passed a time or two with the bases juiced. I guess they figured that giving up ONE run is better than giving up FOUR. I think it's sissy ball myself. I'll walk a guy to set up a DP or a force at home, but that's strategy, not fear. If you can't trust your pitcher to at least pitch around a hitter, he shouldn't be on your squad.

3 games left and Cabrera is hanging in there. Leading in Batting and RBI, tied for first in HR with 3 games left.

Maybe it's been answered, but does a tie count?

Yes, Killebrew tied Yaz in 1967 with 44

Bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two outs and your team is leading 8-6. Barry Bonds steps to the plate — what would you do? Buck Showalter defied convention and chose to intentionally walk the slugger making it a one run game. Brent Mayne batted next and lined out to right field on a 3-2 count and the manager was the hero. Would you have made the same call?

Decision won the game.

I'd probably pitch around him vice giving him the out-and-out pass.

Cabrera gets another dinger, 4 for 5 tonight.

Unless he goes 0-4 and Trout goes 4-4, or Hamilton hits a couple dingers, it should happen.

It's official, first Triple Crown winner since Yaz in 1967. Joins the likes of Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig etc.

Just another reason why the marlins suck. How can that owner live with himself? Trade away the likes of Beckett, Hanley, and a triple crown winner. Then sign multiple free agents to huge deals and finish LAST in the division. Just sell the team already.
