Who is the AL MVP?

Mike Trout of the Angels or Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers?

I'm all for the new age of baseball, and love all of the things that Trout can do, but I cannot vote against a guy that achieves the triple crown.

Either one's a good choice. Either way, if Cabrera gets the Triple Crown I'd say he had a better season. There's an MVP every year. It's been 45 years since there was a Triple Crown winner.

Triple Crown, Team is in the playoffs, Switching position on defense to allow Prince Fielder to play first base. Miggy 100%

Trout has a great season, but he slowed down at the end of the season. Average went from ten plus points ahead of Miggy a month ago to 7 points below today, during the pennant race. .341 pre-all star game .309 post-all star game.

I don't give a shit about the romanticized triple crown, Trout was the most valuable player

...and I'm saying this as an A's fan :ohno:

ROY, sure. But Cabrera gets people across the plate, in staggering fashion. Isn't that the ultimate goal of a hitter?

Well Trout is the lead-off hitter, so he's not going to get RBIs, which are also super dependent on how competent the guys in front of you are in the first place

Is he really that bad? Keep in mind he switched positions to accommodate that obese Prince guy.

He's about middle of the pack defensively. Not bad for having played first base the last several years.

And that obese Prince guy had an infield double in a game last week. ;)

If Trout loses, I might destroy something. He is having a Willie Mays in his prime type of season.

Trout should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Willie Mays when it comes to baseball skills.

Trout tailed of at the end of the year and his team missed the playoffs, Cabrera continued to be strong and his team is in the playoffs.

Because their division sucks. Angels won more games, while doing it against against harder competition

Sorry, but "team in the playoffs" is a team accomplishment, not an individual one. It might matter to the media and some fans, but no me.

I'm still for Trout. He's a complete player and he did this as a rookie.

What about Trout tailing off in the second half of the season? Pitchers are strarting to figure him out, and his average is 32 points lower since the All Star break. If the award was for the first half accomplishments, then, yes he's the MVP. Needs to perform at the high level the entire season and in a pennant race. Cabrera may have been in a division with teams with lower number of wins, but he performed under more pressure.

Good point, it is a team game. Cabrera is more valuable to his team. Without Trout, Angels with Pujols still finish 3rd and someone else scores 100 runs leading off. Without Cabrera, Detroit battles KC and Cleveland for 3rd.

I normally wouldn't, but Trout's season is on par with Mays' very best seasons.

Willie Mays had numbers that looked like the left column during his best years.
