Arlington-Martin kicker Ben Grogan connected on a rare drop-kick PAT Friday night during a 59-7 rout of Weatherford. I just LOVE the old stuff!

didn't the Arena league at one time have a 4-point field goal option on a drop-kick?
they should bring that back (or institute it in college and/or the NFL)

They did. The AFL rule provided for a 4-pt FG or 2-pt FG if drop-kicked. It was rarely used. I think the XFL's playoff-only 3-pt conversion had a higher rate of usage. While I like the XFL's creativity there (they blew it when they replaced kickoffs with Steal the Bacon, resulting in a ton of injuries), as a football history buff, I think the AFL's idea was MUCH better....

According to the AFL site I looked at, evidently there was only one player who ever utilized the 4-pt fieldgoal (and he made 6 of them). That was Brian Mitchell, who played his college ball at UNI.

He also led (by far) the list of 2-pt XP kicks with 28 (the next highest people only had 4)
