He stayed in the base line. What's the problem?

That is really poor awareness by the second baseman. He needs to be in the air.

That's the way they do it in the National League.

Blown call - runner interference - double play. The rules allow you to slide within 3 feet of the side of the base, not 2-3 feet past the base. I'm actually shocked the Giants didn't retaliate, well yet anyway.

You'd be guaranteed that if it was a regular season game that the next time Holliday came up he'd get hit in the ear.

Runners slide past the bag all the time. :coffee:

I see it as interference too. Heck, his knee barely grazed the back of the base as he didn't start his slide until so late. I agree that guys slide by the base all the time, however, that's as a natural progression of a slide that begins before the bag. He didn't even hit the ground until he was beyond the bag and then used his upper torso to hit the fielder. If all that happens in front of the bag then it's fine. With all of it happening behind the bag he should have been ruled out on the spot.

I'm not saying the play was dirty, I've seen tons worse & I don't think Holliday was trying to hurt him - just stop him from completing the DP. Look at the replay, it's his arm that makes first contact with Scutaro, it's actually an easy call, shocked that it was missed but then again I guess I shouldn't be shocked about MLB umpires. No worries, the Giants won in a walk & nobody ended up hurt.

If I watch one inning of this series it'll be a lot.

It's an LCS. Everybody better be wearing their big boy pants.

Who said hard slides and take outs aren't allowed? Heck, I'm in favor of a good retalitory beaning as well. Is that big boy enough for you? It's all part of the game. :thumb:

How did the 2nd baseman not blow his knee out? :?

He has a "hip strain", status for Game 3 is TBD.

Stop being such a blatant homer. By his own admission, Holliday slid too late.

Does that also apply to players fielding routine base hits?

He WAS ruled out on the spot. Hence the umpire making the out signal.

You don't really know a lot about baseball, do you?

If they are smart they won't retaliate. If the play fired up the Giants, why risk returning the favor. They should threaten to retaliate, but they shouldn't do it. Sometimes the threat is worth more than the execution, better to have Holliday looking over his shoulder than it is to left him off the hook.

Next year is a different story, but Holliday doesn't have a reputation of being a dirty player, so the Giants may left it go.
