Cry Me A River....

Baseball has become a buyers market...there are about a dozen All Star caliber players without contracts, and spring training starts in less than a month...

The economy is part of it...and just plain greed on the players and agents part is another...

Manny Rameriz has turned down a large contract from the Dodgers believing he can get more elsewhere...yet no one has stepped forward with that offer...Ben Sheets, Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn are just a few facing the poor house...

Jason Varitek at least now has an offer...most likely less than the $10 - $12 million he turned down earlier this winter...

What will these poor people do to feed their families?????

The Yankees more or less bid against themselves.

And yet they can't seem to win the World Series.

I've hear rumors the Phillies are interested in getting Abreu back... some sports radio personality brought it up, so hopefully it's speculation... yes, he has run production and the Phils could use that... we don't need him though, and don't have a place for him to play... Victorino, Werth and Ibanez make a solid defensive and offensive outfield for about the same price at one Bobby Abreu... if they are smart, they won't make that move and spend the money on Howard. Some team should give Abreu a nice contract, he is one of the better outfielders in the MLB.

I do feel bad for players who have put up huge numbers making $400,000 a year or less and then ask for a nice contract and get a stingy one... players like Manny are ridiculous though. He's old and probably wants a long term contract for a lot of money, not going to happen. Same with Varitek, how have those stats looked over the past few year? Pretty abismal, and he wants 10+ mill? Thanks for helping to ruin baseball again Scott Boras.

Similar in Boston...there's a commentary on the front page of new Sports mag that proposes the Red Sox go after Manny...bring him back...because of his huge production potential...

I hope they don't...he outright quit on his team mates when he decided to leave last season...and Scott Boros is his agent...

I used to be a big baseball fan. Until the last strike. Screw them, greedy bastards. I watch college baseball instead.

I watched college women's world series last fall. It was pretty good. I wonder how many big league baseball players could hit some of those pitches.

Jennie Finch did a feature a year or two back on Fox's This Week In Baseball where she would go throw a pitch to some of baseballs best and very very few, if anyone, ever even touched it with a bat. Most of them backed out of the box like a little pussy.

UGA had a really good team last year... well they always do, but last year they made it to the college world series, it was pretty cool to see people here excited about something other than football... lost to Fresno St though. Gordon Beckham (all American short stop, HR record holder for UGA, etc) gets drafted #8 by the Chi Soxs and what does he proceed to do? Hold out for a better contract that would not only pay him but get him in the majors his first year.... douche, I used to like that guy. Did he get in the majors last year? Nope. Any mariners fans out there, you guys drafted a lights out reliever from UGA... should make it up real soon.

I watched the college women's world series as well. Couldn't tell you a SINGLE score though. I was always fixated on the pitchers ASS. :D
