Best #12 Ever

Since today is 12-12-12, the NFL is staging a debate on FB over who the best #12 is. Naturally, every player mentioned is a quarterback, and the photos they showed ranged from Brodie to Brady. My favorite, of course, wore #11, but his predecessor is my choice for the best #12. He came in late after serving out his term in the Navy in exchange for four years of school and was a major problem for other teams in terms of keeping him in the pocket for a LONG time. He also got away with quite a bit of insubordination in terms of audiblizing. Most of all, of course, is that his mobility led to some of the best comebacks in the history of the NFL, leading to his nickname of "Captain Comeback." Most guys nowadays couldn't audible their way out of a wet paper bag.

My vote for best #12 ever goes to Roger "the Dodger" Staubach.

Let's hear your picks!

Rich Gannon? He was VERY good. But if you want to talk about Raiders, I think a better case could be made for The Snake....

Future HOF #12 Randall Cunningham or SB MVP Doug Williams.

Cunningham >>> Williams. Of course, we'll never know how good Williams could have been if he hadn't suffered from HORRIBLE TB teams for so freaking long. That one great season he had in Washington SHOULD have led to great things; I'm still not sure why he disappeared after that. His second quarter of that Super Bowl will probably never be duplicated. Cunningham was a triple threat back for many years; if only he could have found a consistently good team to be a part of....

Cunningham also wore #7 for 3 years with the Vikings and came the closest to a SB with them.

From that list I'd rank them like this:

Staubach
Griese
Brady
Bradshaw
Rodgers
Kelly
Namath

Never saw the other two play, so can't say.

I'll take the Hall of Famer with four Lombardi trophies and two Superbowl MVP trophies for $200, Alex.

If they can get 3 or 4 O-linemen and a running game and a Defense that keeps him from having to throw the ball all game long... maybe.

And when it's all said and done I think Brady will pass Staubach.

Agreed but he started out as#12.In Minn he finally had a OLine that knew about pass blocking.Ryan was getting ppl in Philly that no one else wanted Cunningham's best player from the OLine was a guy named Reggie Singletary a ex member of their DLine.Nobody among their lineman made the pro bowl.

Williams ,also had the "pleasure"of dealing with a sleazy owner in Hugh Culverhouse ,that screwed him over as a rookie and a FIRST ROUND Selection no less. The management ,stipulated that if he didn't except the contract, that was given to him they would force him to sit for 4 yrs and ,watch someone else do his job that person would have been Steve Spurrier I believe. The money, they gave him was worthy of a FOURTH ROUND draft pick!! I forgot where I read this but he wrote a book called " QUARTERBLACK"after he retired from the NFL.I think Williams ,said that he wanted to rest up ,then come back but Joe Gibbs wanted him back immediately.Cunningham wasn't immune to the problems of race himself. When ppl in Philly found out he was going to replace Ron Jaworski they called into the offices of the Eagles ,to ask why was Jaworski being replaced with a black QB.I think this was mentioned in the article written, about him the first time he made the cover of Sports Illustrated or The Sporting News.
