Weird Rule....

Green Bay kick returner Randall Cobb is famous for long returns. Now he's infamous for knowing quirks in the rules.

The Titans kicker correctly tried to avoid him by kicking near the sideline. Avoiding him was fine; putting it near the sideline was a mistake. Cobb stepped out of bounds before picking up the ball. By rule, if a player is out of bounds while holding the ball, then so is the BALL. That made it an illegal kick out of bounds (despite the fact that the ball was still in the field of play). Result: penalty on Tennessee, saving Green Bay TONS of field position.

Man, I remember the fair catch kick rule, but this is a new one on me. How does one remember all the quirks in the rules? Wow!

Well if they consistantly kick away from you, you read up on what you can do to stop it.

Good point, Andy.

It seems that one should kick to the corner ONLY on punts; KOs should go out the back of the end zone if your kicker has the power....
