Sans steroid rumors, the bolded ones would have been 1st year locks. This was going to be THE year for the HOF...

Maybe I've been under a rock, but I never heard a word about 'roid rumors tied to Schilling. The others, certainly. But not Schilling. Come to think of it, I never heard any of that tied to Biggio, either.

Maybe not, but they're lumped into the "era", and all numbers are tainted at this point.

I thought the dirty helmet would get Biggio in for sure. ;)

Aaron Sele? Jeff Conine? Ryan Klesko? Jeezus H.

I always get a kick out of some of the "lesser" names on the ballot each year.

Biggio nor Bagwell were ever linked to steroids... the fucking writers are just shitbags...

I think it's stupid to eliminate an entire era from the Hall out of some overwrought self-righteous notion of propriety.

In the instructions it mentions the integrity for the game of baseball. We don't know who used steroids, players kept it a secret whether they used or not. Frank Thomas was one of the few players to speak out against steroids during that period. He will be up for election next year. Bagwell has been accused, but denies steroid use. If a player hasn't been caught, why would they admit it. Players, Owners and Bud Selig both ignored and lied about PED's. Not a lot of integrity in baseball, but a lot of money made on the steroid era.

Bags was as linked to steroids as Piazza ever was. Biggio? Not a peep. He should have gotten in...but then there's that santimonious self-righteousness of many BBWAA voters who don't believe that ANY player deserves to get in on their first ballot...I think Biggio gets in next year, and possibly even Piazza.

Could be a big class with Glavine, Maddox and Frank Thomas joining the ballot.

My thing is - all this is tantamount to denying history. MLB has had MUCH more shameful episodes in their history (segregation for one) and the Hall of Fame now tackles those moments head on, doesn't hide it, doesn't excuse it... just explains it.

Hundreds of players were implicated with regard to PED. Not all of them are HOFers. Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, Sosa, Palmeiro should all be in the Hall. The museum should (and already does, to some extent) address the era.

I'm not for putting the roid users or suspects in the Hall of Fame yet.
Waiting for the HOF's section on infamy.
