More Damage Control for the 49ers

Just a week or so after SF had to deal with WR Michael Crabtree being under investigation for sexual assault, now they have to deal with a DB running his mouth on the radio. Now he and the team are backtracking with apologies for anti-gay comments.

When will people learn to keep their public comments limited to the game?

I thought you'd be cheering the anti-gay comment (I've not heard it so I'll leave it at that)

Also, Crabtree was cleared of any allegations

NEW ORLEANS – Michael Crabtree arrived in New Orleans this week without the off-field baggage he brought with him to the NFC title game in Atlanta.

A district attorney in San Francisco earlier this week decided not to file any charges against Crabtree after investigating allegations of a sexual assault. Crabtree was interviewed by police two days before the NFC Championship Game.

"I knew it the whole time, but it was something we had to deal with, you know? I respected the system and what they had to do," Crabtree said Tuesday at Super Bowl Media Day.

Crabtree said he was "disappointed" by the allegations of an assault but was confident his name would be cleared. The alleged incident happened at a hotel hours after San Francisco's divisional playoff win against Green Bay.

Despite his involvement in the ongoing investigation, Crabtree traveled with the 49ers to Atlanta and started in the NFC title game. He caught six catches for 57 yards but lost a fumble near the goal line in that game.

San Francisco CEO Jed York said after that game there was no question about letting Crabtree play in the game. The district attorney's decision not to file charges reinforced that decision. That doesn't mean, however, that the 49ers don't take sexual assault issues seriously, York said.

"We want to make sure that guys understand that they have to respect the people that they're with. You also have to understand that you don't want to be in a situation when someone could make an accusation," York said. "I take it very seriously, if it is a false accusation, and it certainly seemed like it was a false accusation; the DA's not pursuing this at all. That's a big thing for guys."

Crabtree, San Francisco's leading receiver with 85 catches for 1,105 yards in the regular season, is hoping for a bigger and better game in the Super Bowl. He said he was driven this year by what he called a disappointing showing in the postseason last year, when he had only five catches for 28 yards in two playoff games, and only a single catch for three yards in the NFC title game loss to the New York Giants.

"I feel like I still have got something to prove, you know?" Crabtree said. "I've got to go hard."

How is the team backtracking? To my knowledge, the 49ers organization has never made anti-gay comments. An employee did, and he is now backtracking. I really hope the 49ers win and it's all because of Kaep.

Im sick of this biased response by the media on any topic that doesnt tow their left wing political agenda.

Chris had every right to voice his opinion about ANY subject matter he wants to. He did....it should be over. There isnt just one side to his comments there are two sides even though his is correct.

Men need to stand up state what they feel and not let the media or political pressure force and beat them into an apology.

ASU: You represent the organization that issues your paycheck. Many organizations have rules about that sort of thing. People have been fired for having FB pics of themselves holding beer. A chick just got fired from Applebee's for posting a pic of a customer's bill on which he whined about "having" to give her an 18% tip when he already gives God 10% (and claimed to be a "pastor," such claim being dubious to me). You ever notice how often somebody related to your school's football team or the military commits some heinous crime, and the school or the military connection is mentioned in the first paragraph? That's the principle at work here. It might not be right, but that's the way the media operates, so the team HAD to enter DC mode once they heard about it. That subject is one of those things that regardless of personal opinion, you HAVE to keep quiet about, or you LOSE.

That doesn't explain how they are "backtracking." Either you don't know what the word means, or you are just trying to trash the 49ers (most likely).
