It appears that the Red Sox are the front runners for Gagne, but he and Scott Boras must agree to the trade.

The Mets are working on Chad Cordero.

According to what I've seen, Gagne wants to be a closer, so the Sox would have to move Papelbon to the 8th

There won't be any controversy - Okijama in the 7th, Gagne in the 8th, Papelbon in the 9th. Gagne will be taken care of financially in Boston & have a shot at a ring now.

Just one more opportunity for a bullpen blowup. I've never been a fan of using relievers like this. Too much concern over that bogus stat called "pitch count." I'd rather see a guy finish what he starts.

And don't get me started about what goes for "offense" nowadays.

Doesn't mean they will, just means they can. They have basically 4 guys in the bullpen that you can call "shut down guys"

All I gotta say is, Ensberg and one other guy aside, this deadline business sure bit San Diego in the rear. They got rid of their best relief pitcher who doesn't answer to "Hells Bells" and got absolutely NOTHING in return. As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to GMs,

Kevin Towers = Matt Millen.
