This guy has NEVER played a down of American Football, yet was signed by the Detroit Lions on the basis of this viral Youtube video. He's to compete with David Akers for the kicking job vacated by future HOFer Jason Hanson last week (retired).

Kickers don't get into the HOF.

Oh?
The following kickers and punters are in the NFL Hall of Fame. There may be others, but these are the ones I know for sure off the top of my head. (Why Ray Guy isn't there is beyond me.)
Sammy Baugh-P
George Blanda-K
Bob Waterfield-K
Norm Van Brocklin-P
Lou Groza-K
Jan Stenerud-K
So all except Stenerud had other primary positions. But the fact of the matter is, they kicked. Plus, as a kicking specialist, if Stenerud made it, Hanson almost certainly will....

I apologize. I meant players that only kick. There is a bias against special teams players.

That's generally true, V. But Stenerud was a kicking specialist. His presence in the Hall shows that it's at least POSSIBLE.

If that's not chopped somehow, that guy is ridiculous.

Kickers do one of two things. Their job, or they lose the game.

Jan Stenerud = FCS (or the equivalent in it's day)
