Legendary Coach Dies

NAIA and NCAA D-III legend Dr. Frosty Westering of Pacific Lutheran died at 85 today. He led the Lutes from 1972 through 2003, winning NAIA D-II titles in 1980, 1987, and 1993 and a NCAA D-III title in 1999 after jumping to D-III in 1998. In the '98 title run, PacLu became the first and only team (at least in D-III) to win five straight road games en route to the title. Coach Westering was national Coach of the Year several times, and is a member of the NAIA, College Football HOFs, Tacoma-Pierce County, and PacLu HOFs. He is a member of the exclusive 300-win club, finishing with a record of 305-96-7 (.756). His teams were in the NAIA D-II playoffs an amazing 15 years in a row, until the Lutes moved to NCAA D-III. Amazingly, NO PacLu squad EVER posted a losing record on Coach Westering's 32-year watch. He held an Ed.D. from Northern Colorado, and was a tenured professor, dedicated to getting players to graduate and do well in life.
R.I.P. Coach Westering!
