Jacoby Jones

In one of the introductory segments to one of Jacoby Jones' dances on DWTS tonight, they made reference to some muffed punt he gave up while with the Houston Texans. Some have apparently called that muff one of the dumbest plays in football history. Such people are clearly not familiar with Texans history.

Anyone remember Abner's Boner? At the start of overtime in the 1962 AFL Championship Game, Dallas Texan Abner Haynes was instructed by HC Hank Stram to take the 40 mph wind, saying that we'll probably end up kicking because the Houston Oilers would likely take the ball with THEIR choice. Haynes won the toss and uttered perhaps the most infamous words in football history, "We'll kick to the clock." As soon as the words "We'll kick" were out of his mouth, the referee's hands were tied because Haynes had legally chosen to kick off. Fortunately for the distraught Haynes, Dallas extended the game to a second OT, and the requisite direction swap enabled rookie kicker Tommy Brooker to win the game (and the title) with a 24-yard FG.

Even considering Leon Lett (2x) and Jim Marshall, THIS gets my vote for the dumbest play in NFL history....

Being that this is AFL history, these team were not in the NFL until 1970. Thus, not the NFLs dumbest play.

PS- You're an idiot.

Hey, you be nice.

TJ, I was going to ask for some grape drank, a Book of Mormon, and one of those new fangled resolutionary devices.

grizza: I no longer have access to the Book of Mormon. That access ended when I left the Navy.

Andy: Tell that to the NFL. They include AFL stats in their own record book. Odd, considering that they omit AAFC stats....
