The San Francisco 49ers fear wide receiver Michael Crabtree tore his Achilles tendon on Tuesday, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Crabtree is undergoing additional tests to confirm the injury, the sources said.

Quick Question: So the guys on ESPN radio were saying that he would be out for 6 months....why does that sound way short?

I think there have been examples of players coming back and playing (Terrell Suggs last year), but I won't hold my breath. I'd be really surprised if he makes it back before December or January. :(

Better get dat deer antler spray ready.

It's true Suggs came back in 6 months but to be honest he performed nowhere near to the level he normally did. Best case for Crabtree most likely is a December return, but honestly he should not be a big factor for the 49ers this season.

Exactly.

Assuming Manningham comes back at 100%, and either Jenkins or Patton can perform well this year, we'll still have a serviceable group of WRs.

Anquan Boldin
Mario Manningham
A.J. Jenkins
Quintin Patton
Kyle Williams

Plus we still have Kaepernick, Vernon Davis, the best O-Line in football, and a stable of good backs, I think we'll be okay. Kaep might struggle a bit without his #1 guy, but I don't think this is a death blow to the offense.

You just worry about the Falcons. (I'm no 49ers fan either).

Not worried about them. Hawks added pass rush help and the best nickel cb. That last 25 second garbage isn't going to happen again.

The Whiners have no backup quarterback of note and only a second-year guy who hasn't proven much yet, plus no proven wide-outs with the loss of Crabtree. Actually, all they have are Gore and Davis. That might not be enough.

Then again, we're talking the NFC West, where a 10-6 record can take the division in some years. Look out for Sam Bradford, though, Whiner fans. He appears to be on the upswing....

Yeah, all we have are Davis and Gore. Not to mention the best LBs in the NFL, the best O-Line, a beast D-Line, and the best coaching staff. Boldin and a healthy Manningham will be at least serviceable, and the way Kaep made Crabtree into a star, I don't doubt he can make the other WRs look good. He's that good. :coffee:

And  division smack? The NFC West is easily the best division in the NFL now.

Sorry your boy Smith wasn't good enough to keep his job. Kansas City could use a little more dead weight.

And how's it looking across the bay? Striving for that 5th or 6th overall draft pick next year? Exciting. :coffee:

Your math must be wrong. Clemons tore his ACL, no? And Irvin just got suspended. So that's 2 down. They added Avril...but who's the nickel CB? Is that a Winfield reference? Not sure he has the wheels to stay there. But who cares? It's May. (And it's the NFL, too.)

Irvin will be back week 5, and Clemons back week 7, well before the Falcons in week 10. We added Avril AND Michael Bennett, who had 8 or 9 sacks last year as well. Antoine Winfield was the highest rated nickel CB last year... certainly an improvement over Trufant.

What rating? Is there some new metric for measuring DBs now? Man, I remember the days when football used to be much simpler.
