The schedule is out for the WWC, which will be held in Finland next week. It's a pretty short tournament as only six teams are playing, and they're using pool play. I've converted the times to PST.
You can link to live streaming here. There WILL be a fee, of course. I found out last time around (2010) that the fee DOUBLES for the Gold Medal Game, so watch out.

It's a final. USA wins 84-0, continuing the shutout streak extending back to 2010. I'll post some stats if I can find them. That is proving elusive. From what little I've been able to catch, though, the MVP might well be Chicago Force QB Sami Grisafe, who scored at least one TD by herself. This is Grisafe's last hurrah, as she is retiring at the conclusion of the 2013 season.

Well, this isn't a traditional set of stats or even a traditional box score, but San Diego's Cassey Brick scored three TDs and Chicago's Sami Grisafe was named MVP of today's win over Sweden. Emma Bendorf was Sweden's MVP.
Mia Brickhouse picked up three two-point conversions, and Donna Wilkinson got four before the USA coaching staff FINALLY let kicker Angela Larsen kick; she made the final two PATs.

What did Emma Bendorf do to win MVP in a game where her team lost 84-0?

Participation trophy.

Well it's nice to know the "everyone's a winner...everyone gets a medal" meme is ruining the WWCoAF as well.

The scoreless streak is over! With about ten minutes left in the first quarter, Germany found the end zone against Team USA with a run up the middle. The score is USA 8, Germany 7.
USA is finding a lot of offensive success with the ubiquitous receiver bubble screen.

USA gets in with a shovel pass from the 1 and tacks on another 2-point conversion.
USA 16, Germany 7. 9:15 left, 1Q.

Team USA is getting some success from the spread read option, but the latest TD comes from a bubble screen. THEN USA gets a pick six. Both TDs are capped by 2-pt conversions.
USA 32, Germany 7. Still in the first quarter.

On the first play following a German punt, USA busts out the old hook-and-ladder for a 60-yard TD. And they actually followed it with a KICKED extra point.
USA 39, Germany 7, with around 3 min left 1Q.

Near the end of the first quarter, both teams are starting to get a little sloppy. The German defense was flagged for a facemask, then after ANOTHER US TD, the Americans were tagged for a late hit after the German returner took a knee. Really leveled her.
USA 46, Germany 7. End 1Q.

Interesting change-up thrown by Team USA to close the first half. After an entire half of a spread read-option type of offense, the Americans completely shift gears to close the half in a jumbo double tight I formation with a lineperson reported in as a wingback. San Diego's Cassey Brick was getting great yardage following the wing, but the clock ran out before USA could score again.
At the half, it's USA 60, Germany 7.

The German QB is having problems reading defenses. She's thrown two picks (one for a TD), both to Katherine Sowers. The first (the one that did NOT go for the US TD) was forced on a slot-receiver slant with Sowers WAY too close to even THINK about the throw. The vaunted German running game is ALSO getting nowhere, except for the surprise touchdown that ended the USA scoreless streak dating back to the 2010 World Championship. We'll see if Germany can get something together in the second half.

With the third QB in the game, Germany FINALLY had something going. They got a first down, then stalled out with a false start. On the very next play, the QB threw high on what looked like a slant, and Katherine Sowers took back her second pick-six of the day and third interception overall. All three German QBs have thrown interceptions, all to Sowers.
Near the end of 3Q, the score is now USA 86, Germany 7. The last two PATs have been missed. I guess American kicker Angela Larsen is getting tired.

San Diego's Cassey Brick scores AGAIN. After the PAT, the score is now USA 100, Germany 7. About five min or so left in the game.

OK. It's in the books. USA (2-0) beats Germany (1-1) 107-7 to punch the first ticket into Saturday's Gold Medal Game. Germany will play for Bronze. Their opponents will be determined by the results of today's 10 AM PDT matchup between Canada (1-0) and Finland (1-0).
Saturday's 5th/6th Place Classification Game has been set: Spain (0-2) vs. Sweden (0-2).
For today's game, DB Katherine Sowers of the Kansas City Titans was named MVP for her four picks and two pick-sixes. The German MVP was RB Joan Osagi, who broke the American's sixteen-quarter scoreless streak dating back to 2010.

Too many women's sports have no parity, and this sport looks especially bad. Doesn't look like anyone will come within 60 points of the US team.

Possibly Canada. But, then again, in the Gold Medal Game in 2010, USA beat Canada 66-0. For the time being, though, I suspect that CAN will be the closest thing to competition that we have.
But I get tired of the "football against the world is dumb because nobody will ever beat us" mentality. We had the same mentality in hoops and baseball, and look where that got us. Remember that international women's football isn't all that old, but there are national chapters in 64 countries. Let them get up to speed before you make those blanket, for-all-time statements. They have a way of exploding on you very quickly, like USA's now-history scoreless streak of nearly seventeen quarters.

Canada beat Finland 34-12 to close out pool play. Saturday's pairings are now set. My predictions are in bold.
5th/6th Place Classification Game: Spain (0-2) vs. Sweden (0-2) 1 AM PDT
Despite Sweden's poor showing against the United States, they pretty much held their own against
Germany. Spain has already been trounced twice. Look for a similar result.
Bronze Medal Game: Germany (1-1) vs. Finland (1-1) 5 AM PDT
Finland has an impressive win against a bad team and were so-so against one of the two world powers.
Germany's win was a little too close for comfort, AND they got whitewashed against the Americans, despite
becoming the first team ever to score on the USA. Finland wins handily.
Gold Medal Game: Canada (2-0) vs. USA (2-0) 9 AM PDT
Canada was impressive vs. newcomer Spain and did well against a spunky Finnish team. USA was completely dominant. Canada will be looking to avenge 2010's 66-0 loss in the Gold Medal Game, and will be encouraged by the fact that it is now possible to score on the US. Will that be enough for Canada to clinch gold? Probably not. Will it be enough to prevent another embarrassment? Maybe. Nod goes to USA...for the time being. Once somebody DOES catch up to the Americans, I'm fairly confident that the Canadians will be the first to do so.
