WFA Championship Game

The Chicago Force is dominating the Dallas Diamonds so far at the Women's Football Alliance Championship Game at Balboa Stadium in San Diego. Force quarterback Sami Grisafe opened scoring with a 21-yard run on a broken play. A running back also has a Force TD, though the PAT snap was high, and the holder could only fall on it. Dallas has been stuffed twice on fourth down deep in Chicago territory, despite a huge kick return following Chicago's second TD; the returner was hauled down by the Chicago kicker.

Chicago leads 13-0 near the end of the first quarter.

Chicago got another TD with a 20-something yard run up the middle. But that's not the impressive part. Grisafe broke free from two Diamond DLs on the two-point conversion and found a receiver in the end zone. Shades of The Catch or even the Flutie Miracle, only better!

Amazing that this is happening in what is essentially a homecoming of sorts for Grisafe, who played football for her high school team in Redlands, but hasn't played in Cali since she was 15. Many of her friends and family are seeing her play for the first time since then, too. Combine that with the fact that this is her last game due to her upcoming retirement, and it's surprising that she didn't have pre-game jitters....

Less than two minutes left in 1Q, Chicago leads 21-0.

Well, Dallas isn't going to go quietly. They made Chicago pay for coming out in a Cover Zero, as the running back gets to the second level quickly on an off-tackle play, going more than 40 yards for the TD. The 2-pt pass was high in the corner.

Chicago leads 21-6 with about 29 ticks left in 1Q.

Grisafe FINALLY connects with Team USA teammate Jeanette Gray (from Valpo) with a 40-yard fade route!

Force 28, Diamonds 6, with about 14 min left in the first half.

Nearing the end of the first half, Dallas has scored their third TD, but they're not really catching up. Chicago leads 50-20, but Dallas is not going away.

Jessica Javelet goes 59 yards with the middle screen for yet ANOTHER Chicago TD. Javelet was forced out of bounds at the pylon on the 2-pt attempt.

Force 56, Diamonds 20, 3:21 left 2Q.

Season awards to be announced at the half.

There was something of a fight in the 4th quarter. Chicago's smallish linebacker was blitzing when Dallas was called for false start. A Dallas OL spun her around, which started some shoving. Both were flagged for off-setting unsportsmanlike conduct. Result: just the five yards for the false start.

Wow.

After Dallas instigated another fight, Chicago responds with a 58-yard slant to Jessica Javelet. The kicker had to fall on the high snap for the second time tonight.

Chicago 81, Dallas 34.

It's a final! Sami Grisafe takes a knee to close out the title in her final game ever. Chicago Force (12-0) 81, Dallas Diamonds (11-1) 34.

Both teams were actually impressive here. Dallas had given up 52 TOTAL points through the regular season and the playoffs before running into the Chicago buzzsaw. Chicago averaged about a touchdown given up on the season before giving up five to Dallas. Wow.

Sure, I can't wait for the Hornets to start kicking people's shells again. But I'll never get how scared you male chauvinist pigs are of getting shown up by a girl.

:ohno:

I don't mind being called a male chauvinist pig. No doubt I'm a sexist because sexism happens to coincide with reality.

But I'm not getting why you think the WFA Championship Game constitutes anybody getting shown up by a girl. It's just girls playing each other.

The WFA title game isn't the point, JSO. It's the fact that male idiots are scared of these girls coming over into games with guys and dominating....
