No Class....

I didn't see anything of the SF-CAR game until 23 seconds left because we had a special business meeting after church, but what I saw as soon as I turned on the TV disgusted me to say the least.
Up two touchdowns with 23 seconds left, the Whiners ran a fake punt pass?!? What the crap was THAT?!? That's running up the score (or TRYING to, anyway). Sure, they were worried about the potential for a blocked punt if they actually went through with the punt. No objection to THAT. But the CORRECT deal there would have been to run out the clock. The punter takes the snap and runs back toward the end zone, using as much of the field as possible in a zig zag pattern, and taking the intentional safety if he has to. The important thing would have been to bleed as much of that clock as possible, and get the game over with.
If that play was Harbaugh's decision, he ought to be forced out for trying to run up the score. If it was Lee doing that on his own, that's proof that Harbaugh has no control over his team, and has no business being a head coach. Either way, he should be gone!

As a Panthers fan, I didn't really care. I just hope Seattle beats the ever-loving crap out of the Whiners.

Yes, they should fire the guy who's taken a team that couldn't make the playoffs to 3 straight NFC championships, because he
may of hurt the other millionaires' feelings. You play to win, not to please the Puritans

And

at Lee doing that on his own. I'm sure all punters in the NFL have that sort of control over major game decisions

The panthers left our gunner completely uncovered with no one behind the line of scrimmage.
That was a smart heads up play call to combat an idiotic one by the panthers special teams. If he completes that pass, it's six. Any coach not taking advantage of that situation is an idiot.
Harbaugh clearly isn't.

You do that in the MIDDLE of the game when the TD means something. You DON'T do that at the END of a game that's already been decided. That's called "running up the score," and quite often it comes back to bite you in the butt, because either someone does it to YOU, or in the process of doing so, a star player goes on the shelf during garbage time.

That's exactly right, Andy. And there's no part of that that says that it's wrong to HASTEN the end of the game.

None of that happened, so all that's left is your glorious butthurt.

That was the INTENT, Dumb Dumb. The fact that the INTENT didn't pan out doesn't excuse the Whiners for their bogus way to close a game....

This thread is what is wrong with sports. OH, no, don't run up the score on someone. That isn't sportsmanlike. ooo, think of the other teams' feelings.
Fuck them. You play to win, and if they don't like you running up the score, do something to stop them.

That wasn't the ONLY thing wrong with the play, grizza. It was ALSO a huge risk of personnel for no good gain at that point in the game. Had the Whiners gotten a first down, they presumably would have played the ones again, with the distinct possibility that a starter (Kaepernick would have been an utter disaster) could get hurt trying to get a meaningless touchdown. With THAT kind of lead, the proper move is to run out the clock, celebrate the win, and start focusing on the next game. I flat out GUARANTEE the Whiners lose in Seattle without Kaepernick or a top back/receiver....

Trying to score at the end of the game was the least chippy thing San Fran did that day.

Bullshit. Is going for a first down on 4th and inches when you're up by 14 late in the game running up the score? You should stick to girls football.
