This Super Bowl proved 10 things:

1) The San Francisco 49rs were the second best team in the NFL...
2) Peyton Manning is not the greatest of all time
3) That Denver run defense is FOR REAL
4) Seattle's offense and Defense each scored enough to win this game (without the other scoring)
5) Wes Welker might be over paid at $6,000,000 a year
6) Eric Decker who?
7) Percy Harvin got paid $12 Million this season for that Kick return TD
8) The Seahawks are more likeable when Russel Wilson does the talking (and everybody else shuts up)
9) The Denver organization is all class
10) We all know the Seahawks would have made complete asses of themselves if they lost

And the third and 4th best teams in the NFL are the Panthers and the Cards

Defense wins championships and gives your offense great opportunities during the span of a game. I don't think anyone else beats Denver though. Seattle's defense is that much better than anyone else.

One of the best closing and tackling D's I've ever seen, without a weak spot at any position including many of the back ups.

Non-football related - Bruno Mars is one talented performer. The mashup with RHCP was forced and boring.

Couldn't disagree more. I'm not being a homer, but San Fran, Carolina, and Arizona could have beaten Denver Sunday night.

After watching Manning dismantle the Pats I didn't think Denver could be stopped. Turns out I was very wrong.

I have no problem with your opinion, AnygivenSunday. You could probably add 10 teams to that list, even San Diego beat them during the regular season. I would take Denver in a majority of the games if each played 10. San Fran would have the best outcome of the three, as they have a good defense. Remember a beat up Green Bay defense gave San Fran a scare in the playoffs. I just think Seattle's defense is that much better than anyone else. Seattle would have crushed SF, Carolina and Arizona Sunday, IMO.

23 NFL teams did not beat the Cowboys in the most recently concluded season.

My observations:

I've always thought that the two weeks off gives the defense the advantage...more time to prepare against good offenses.

Seattle's D is fun to watch.

billk pointed out that the top 7 NFL offenses have never won a Super Bowl. Offense sells tickets, defense win championships.

Peyton was WAY off. He missed open receivers by a mile...A MILE! Who was that guy...because it didn't look like Peyton (and it wasn't all Seattle's D).

On the last Seattle TD, WTF was the CB doing? He had the guy in his arms, and then released his tackle...watch the replay. Simply released his hand. Strange...spanos strange.

My wife was rooting for Seattle. Her ex-nephew is a coach on the Seahawks. Got several glimpses of him during the game.

Thank goodness our neighbor serves great food and beer.

My son got to stay up for the whole game...first time. Bummer it wasn't a competitive game.

School was called due to snow on Monday, so my son got to sleep in the next day.

What were the odds for a safety being the first score? A few folks were really, really happy after the first few seconds of that game.

Sailing season starts next Saturday...getting he boats ready for launch day in April.

People always repeat this whenever a defensive team wins the Super Bowl but defensive teams don't dominate Super Bowls over the years.

I don't buy Arizona at all. I can't do it...not with Carson Palmer at QB. They beat Seattle in Seattle but that was a fluke. 4 turnovers and they still win? Not exactly a ringing endorsement to me.

If you look down thru the years, it's generally the best defensive team in the game, that has won the Super Bowl.

Baltimore, Pittsburgh, NY Giants, Tampa etc. I'm not going to get into statistics, because they don't tell the entire story.

That's irrelevant. So is playing "which team would win more if they played 10 times." The Super Bowl is one game, not a series.

Carolina's defense finished #2 in the league. They held Seattle to 12 points, and held San Fran to 9 in the first meeting. San Fran completely outplayed Carolina in the Divisional Round, no argument here.

Seattle was the best team in the NFL this season, and there's no question about that. But, that's not the point. The point is how many teams could have beaten Denver on Sunday. There's no question that San Fran, Carolina, and possibly Arizona would have. The old adage that "defense wins championships and offense sells tickets" is true. Carolina D > San Fran D > Arizona D >>>>>>> Denver D

I'd say SF's D is about equivalent to Arizona's....other than that, your argument is spot on.
