I actually voted for soccer for 3rd. The reason is the number of youth soccer players out numbers some of the other sports. Baseball is the tough one. Great sport and big fan base, but it is losing steam in my opinion. Also, while a number of people are against racing being a sport, but NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in the nation exceeding football.Col Hogan wrote:I wish I could vote for soccer in the top three...but that's not realistic given our collective disdain for the sport...
I personally love it, and it is clearly my #4 sport...
You are spot on about the number of youth leagues...here in Northern VA, soccer is everywhere...Biff wrote:I actually voted for soccer for 3rd. I think the drop off is partly because of coverage. But I think what will turn this around is if US Soccer can get a World Cup and start drawing more international players that could change. One other factor would be if one of the channels like TNT, USA, or TBS took a look at hosting a number of Soccer games, we may see this change. But, hell Baseball plays somewhere close to 5 billion games a season. There is only so much TV time to go around.Col Hogan wrote: I assume that, as kids get older, the love of soccer falls off because there is little to no TV coverage and most sportscast provide no coverage outside of the few successful MLS markets (DC is one of them)...
I knew I was forgetting one. And how many people actually watch golf? I bet it will surprise me because the only thing more boring than watching golf is watching soccer.hank scorpio wrote:What about Golf? It is on network tv every weekend.

I am watching NASCAR right now and I cannot believe I forgot that one as well. Hell I shouldn't be allowed to make polls anymore. I always dick them up one way or another.Willie06 wrote:Football, Baseball and to be honest I went with Appa and believe NASCAR is one of the top.

Well if that pic pops up once a week it posts once more than you have been lately.
