Kings go up 2-0, tide turned on a bad no call on a goalie interference that resulted in a goal.

Kings can virtually wrap it up tonight with a W. Still got them in 5.

That last second goal seemed to demoralize the Rangers...as well as those lucky Quick stick saves.

It's fun living in NY right now.
A week ago, here was the typical scenario:
All sorts of men/women at gas stations/grocery stores/bars/restaurants wearing their NY Rangers gear. (Most of it is Messier stuff). All talking about how much they love the Rangers.
Today, not a hat/shirt/jersey to be found anywhere. Shit, even Yankees gear is fewer and farther between than it was back in spring training/early April.
As is typical with almost every NY sports fan I've encountered since I've been up here, they will be the first to start talking about "their" team when they have won a game. But if they lost.....fughedaboudit, they won't even acknowledge that they even knew the team played a game.
This conversation has actually happened several times, as I always try to bait people here, now that I know their ways.
Me - "Did you watch that game yesterday?"
Shmuck - "What game? Who played?"
Me - "The Giants, they played at 4PM yesterday."
Shmuck - "Oh, I didn't even know they were playing. Who'd they play?"
Me - "The Eagles. They lost."
Shmuck - "Huh, I had no idea."
It's amazing, I've never seen anything like it in DC/Baltimore/Philly/Boston/Pittsburgh, etc.

New York is the biggest bandwagon city in the country. Worse yet it's incestual. When I went to UD in the late 80's everyone from the greater NYC area were Mets fans - I knew one guy that claimed to be a Yankees fan. Fast forward a decade into the future, and yep, you guessed it, all Yankees fans.bandl wrote:It's fun living in NY right now.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup
It's basically Mets/Jets fans and Yankees/Giants fans. Yanks and Giants are more of the bandwagon. Jets/Mets fans are generally truer fans because neither has won in all in a while and have had some bad periods so those who have stuck with them, are in no way bandwagonners. That's not to say that I don't know Yank/Giants fans that have been that since the 80s and before - but that is how it tends to go.bluehenbillk wrote:New York is the biggest bandwagon city in the country. As for me with Rangers (I am a fan and was when others would bring out 1940), Game 1 killed me because they blew the lead but knew that getting 1 of 2 in LA would be ok and Rangers played horribly in the 3rd, Game 2 killed me because the refs helped LA get back in it, Game 3 was deflating especially after the last second goal.
Give credit where credit is due though. Series is not over (just ask LA in round 1) but it'll be really tough to come back. Rangers outside of Game 3 have made a good series of this even if they are down 3-0. An OT and 2OT loss is something most others did not see. Win one of those and this series is completely different. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
Re: 2014 Stanley Cup
Not really true, at least not in this part of New York. They are each and the same up here. If their team is winning, you know it. If they are losing, they don't exist to them. Bandwagon fans up here, through and through.tribe_pride wrote:It's basically Mets/Jets fans and Yankees/Giants fans. Yanks and Giants are more of the bandwagon. Needless to say I don't see Yankees or Mets gear very much right now!

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup
To be fair, it's the same in a number of places. For years, you could walk into an O's game and hear a pin drop. When they did well (last year? 2 years ago?), O's fans came out of the woodwork. The Caps attendance was horrible and nobody cared about them until Ovechkin came around and Wizards attendance is up this year after nobody caring about them for years. The Phillies attendance is down 7,000 per game just from last year and 14,000 from 2 years ago. Cleveland Indians used to have the record for most consecutive sell outs before Red Sox took over. This year, they are last at 15,123 and nobody cares. I know the Mid-Atlantic area and some other areas better than other areas but fans generally are bandwagon fans. When their team sucks, they move on and do other things. All teams have diehards but when things go bad, people have better things to do.bandl wrote:Not really true, at least not in this part of New York. They are each and the same up here. Re: 2014 Stanley Cup
I can't think of another player that did more for the interest of a sport in a city than Ovie. In 2005-06 the Caps were 28th in attendance, only edging out Chicago (not kidding) and the Islanders. They are in a precarious spot right now though. With the Wizz making the playoffs this year, they could quickly start slipping in attendance and interest.tribe_pride wrote:The Caps attendance was horrible and nobody cared about them until Ovechkin came around...

IDK for sure, but I'd like to think no self-respecting Isles fan would jump on the Rangers bandwagon.89Hen wrote:My bil is from Long Island and is a Yankees fan. For some reason that drives me nuts.
