I'm not so sure why it's that funny.

Dude was a stud in high school. He's taken BP with the Padres before and hit a couple out of the park.

It's not uncommon for QBs to be drafted
2014 Johnny Manziel Padres
2009 Colin Kaepernick Cubs
2007 Russell Wilson Orioles - Drafted again later
2006 Jake Locker Angels - Drafted again later
2004 Matt Cassel Athletics
2002 Brandon Weeden Yankees
2000 Michael Vick Rockies
1995 Tom Brady Expos

Manziel nearly played baseball for TAMU and has hinted at that before. Had he not won the job as a rFr at TAMU he was likely going to go to baseball.

I still don't understand why teams do it. There's zero chance he'll step foot on a diamond unless he's a huge flop in the NFL.

a player drafted that late has never player a single game in the majors, according to multiple Twitter reports.

Why draft anyone there?

The reports are wrong. Mike Piazza was drafted in the 62nd round (#1390), Jeff Conine was picked in the 58th round (#1,226), Kenny Rogers in the 39th round (#816) and Keith Hernandez was selected in the 42nd round (#785) for example. There used to be more rounds I guess.

There still are. Some other guys with MLB lineage were drafted that late over the weekend, including Ryan Ripken and Mariano Rivera III.

Because you have to field complete teams for genuine prospects to play with in the minors.

And that's what you get for believing everything you read on twitter. Because that couldn't be further from the truth.

It seems that very few people truly understand how expansive professional baseball is in this country and the sheer number of teams that are at the pro level.
