Do you realize why his number is the only one retired by baseball? It's not because he was the best.
He didn't deserve the abuse as a player, and he didn't deserve his number being retired. It was nothing more than an over-correction for earlier wrongs. Honestly, you should be ashamed for taking the handout.

In my post, I stated his number is retired by only 1 team. That was a mistake, his number is retired by 2 teams.
He retired with 7 batting titles. Rodney Cline Carew was a great at stealing home like Jackie. I see him walking around at many Twins functions. Looks like he could still play.

I still don't understand why Robinson gets all this love and Larry Doby is practically ignored. They started in MLB the same season.

Plus, if one wants to talk about "breaking the color barrier," Kenny Washington and Woody Strode (Rams, NFL) and Bill Willis and Marion Motley (Browns, AAFC) did it A YEAR BEFORE ROBINSON EVEN SIGNED.

Why are these guys forgotten and Doby crapped on while Robinson gets all the glory? They had to endure racist crap, too....

em, ah, Rod Carew isn't Jewish, he was married to a Jewish woman and was a member of a Temple, but he never converted. Raised their kids in the Jewish tradition. His second wife is Christian.
