NFL Hires Female Official!

It looks like the NFL is FINALLY joining the trend started by the NBA by hiring female officials. Sarah Thomas has been a college and professional (UFL) referee for years, and has bowl games to her credit.
About freaking time. I hope she measures up to the example set by Anni Tahtinen, the Finnish referee in charge of the 2013 Women's World Championship Final, who arbitered an absolutely FLAWLESS game ultimately won by the US Women's National Team over a game Canadian squad. Tahtinen is the best referee I've seen since Jerry Markbreit retired....

Not an April Fools joke. Every broadcast game introduces the crew chief, regardless of sport, right? The same thing happened with the WWC. She was really good, better than anyone currently officiating here in the States that I've seen, so naturally I remembered her. I wish she'd apply to the NFL, because she'd be right at the top within a few years.

HHHmmmm. Exactly what channel are you watching Finland vs Canada in girls football? And don't you still have over the air reception?

It was a 'Net broadcast. A great improvement given that it was FREE, whereas they charged for each game in the 2009 tournament, and the gold medal game (ALSO between USA and Canada) was twice as much as the other games with no warning on that....

By questioning the lengths the NFL goes to for publicity, Sen’Derrick Marks has invited some bad publicity upon himself.
With one analogy, the Jaguars defensive lineman swiped at the NFL and insulted the credentials of Michael Sam and the NFL’s newest ref.
“It’s just like the Michael Sam situation — if he wasn’t gay, he would have gone undrafted,’’ Marks told TMZ concerning the hiring of Sarah Thomas, who will be the first full-time, non-replacement official in the league. “Instead, the league drafts him because I think they are trying to monopolize every aspect of the world. The same thing with a female ref.
“For the league, it’s great publicity. The NFL is all about monopolizing every opportunity.’’

Thomas has been made a line judge. It won't take her very long to get from there back to referee....
