Sirens Open 2-0

Returning from a one-year hiatus, the Sacramento Sirens extended their season-opening streak to two wins with a 49-0 home victory over the California Quake at Sacramento City College last night. Despite the lopsided score, this game was largely a defensive victory for the Sirens, as the Quake could not move the ball at all and suffered at least three blocked punts. On offense, the Sirens got most of their yardage and points on the ground, but the passing game DID show up as completed fade patterns either landed inside the ten or resulted in scores. The Sirens improve to 2-0, while the Quake fall to 1-1.
There ARE a few things for the Sirens to tighten up on as they prepare for next week's visit from the Phoenix Phantomz (1-0). The Sirens mismanaged the ball at times with untimely red zone interceptions and fumbles. The Phantomz are expected to have a much better team than the Sirens have faced up to this point, so they can't really expect their stingy defense to look out for a sloppy offense to that degree.
Kickoff is again at 5:30 at Sacramento City College next Saturday.

I have to say I'm disappointed in myself for even wasting that thought on it, but sometimes your curiosity gets the best of ya.

Nothing in the known universe explains Grizo.

The Sirens ownership wanted to take a break. Now we have a new ownership group and a new coaching staff.
Sort of similar to the situation in Boston, except without the bajillionaire owner. Boston's ownership paid for EVERYTHING from player fees to flights, giving the team a rather extravagant lifestyle compared to other semi-pro teams. This past offseason, the owner pulled the plug, and the ladies (including a former Siren on exchange from Japan) had to scramble to get a new ownership group on the same paradigm everyone else has. New team, new name, same results, though....
