PORTLAND, Ore. — Officials at the Little League Softball World Series required teams from Washington and Iowa to play a tie-breaker game Tuesday after receiving reports that some teams "did not play with the effort and spirit appropriate" for Little League play.

The dispute arose after the Snohomish, Washington, team was no-hit Monday by a team from Salisbury, North Carolina.

The loss created a three-way tie for the Pool B title, meaning that Washington and North Carolina would advance to the semifinals and the Polk City, Iowa, team would not.

Chris Chadd, the president of the Central Iowa Little League, told the Des Moines Register that the Washington team basically "threw the game." He says he thinks Washington was trying to avoid a rematch with Iowa in the semifinals.

EDIT: It was girls softball. Nothing to see here. Still a shitty thing to do.

I watched some of that game last night (Rhode Island versus NC I think?). Man, nobody comes out for girls softball. That crowd wasn't any bigger than the one that watched the Yankees beat the Bears when Kelly Leak was thrown out at home trying to stretch a clean triple into an inside the park grand slam.

Kelly Leak would have struck out had he had to face Amanda Whurlitzer and her amazing spitball. Good thing for him she was his teammate.

Nonsense, he faced her in batting practice and actually caught her weak stuff with his bare hand. And it wasn't a spitball, she was using vaseline that she put on the underside of her hat.
