Yup - gave up a lot for the right to draft whomever the Rams don't want.

Do the Eags get the rights to Manziel as well?

That's all we need to complete the clown show.

As a Eagles fan I have a very hard time trying to put my stamp of approval on this move. This year is a relatively weak QB class & it's a top heavy one which vaults two guys up that ordinarily should never get picked that high. Last year's class was way better & we didn't "do the deal" and next year's class is going to better as well.
Fearing 3rd place will be the Eagles ceiling till the early to mid point of next decade.

Agree. We're basically going to have the sloppy seconds of what are two overinflated QB's that are there basically by default and not their own doing. Now, maybe they trade Bradford and get back at least a second round pick or, best case, a late first round pick somewhere, because now you don't need him, but I'm not sure either guy is an improvement over Bradford and we weren't going to win with Bradford. Certainly underwhelmed.

I hope the Rams like him better than Goff.

And this.
Can't call this trade until probably three years from now. These trades never look good initially for the team that gave up the boatload of picks.
PS. I wonder how much of this had to do with Howie Roseman's ego and showing Chip Kelly that he could actually make the trade up for a franchise QB that Kelly couldn't do to get Mariotta?

That's the part that should scare Eagles fans.

This trade could be a bonding experience for this website between Eagles and NDSU fans.
That's assuming they draft Wentz and he does well. Any other scenario and I see very little bonding happening.

Is the writing on the wall?
Even if the first two teams pass on him, Wentz said there are other potentially attractive spots in the top 10 where he could fit in. But if it's Philadelphia, ESPN's NFL front office insider Louis Riddick said Wentz couldn't pick a better situation.
The Eagles have quarterback Sam Bradford under contract for one more year, meaning the former No. 1 overall draft pick in 2010 could act as a mentor to Wentz for a season, Riddick said. The Eagles also have quarterback Chase Daniel, who Riddick called the ideal teammate to work with Wentz.
Add to the mix of what Riddick calls one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL in terms of coaching schemes and fundamentals, and all the pieces are there.
"It's exactly how you draw it up in a meeting room as far as setting a player up for success at the quarterback position," said Riddick on a national ESPN teleconference. "I think they handled it as best as they possibly can right now as far as taking care of the short term and then taking care of the long term. If in fact it is Carson that goes to Philly, if I'm Carson, I'm ecstatic."
The Eagles are one of the teams that have been to Fargo for a private workout with Wentz. Riddick couldn't say enough about head coach Doug Pederson, offensive coordinator Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo.
Wentz also had a good experience with the club. Fargo Forum

Same guy does the same rant on YouTube after every Eagles move. The first couple of dozen were fresh and sort of funny. After awhile you get numb to the same shtick.

No matter how many times I watch EDP his rants never get old.

Difference is, last year you had two QB's that were high in the first round because people really liked both QB's. Now you have two QB's high in the first round that seem to be there simply because some teams want to believe picking any QB that high is a good thing. Neither of these guys would have been taken before Winston or Mariotta last year if you could've combined the two drafts.

Take it FWIW
Mayock Link
"The statement I'm going to make to you guys, and you can tell me whether you agree or not, is I'm at the point now with both Wentz and Goff where I think they're every bit as good, if not better, than Winston and Mariota from a year ago as prospects," Mayock said.

FWIW II
NFL Films Link
"If I had to compare this year's group, I think Wentz is more talented than either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota just in terms of traits" Cosell said. "I think Carson Wentz is a high-level traits prospect."
That goes with what his pro day and (limited) film from Wentz's North Dakota State days say. Wentz isn't just a guy who dominated lesser competition. His arm strength, size and mobility make him look (for whatever it's worth) like a real, big-time NFL prospect.

FWIW III
Philly Link
"During Super Bowl week, one draft expert I spoke with said he ranked California’s Jared Goff as a better prospect at this point in the process than Mariota or Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston a year ago. That draft guru also said that North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz clearly was ahead of the rest of the quarterbacks and the gap between Goff and Wentz was not that great."

Eh, everyone likes new stuff. And draft experts, who make their money covering and touting the next draft, will rarely say "hey, the draft this year is no good, just stop listening to me and wait until next year when it's worth watching again".
