In bizarro news from the NFL
The Ravens trade their second best defensive lineman Jernigan (24 yrs old) to the Eagles
Simply to move up 25 spots in the 3rd round

WTF...?

The Ravens have had 5-11 and 8-8 seasons respectively
They need to keep their talent ... wow....

The Eagles and Roseman are on FIRE right now in my opinion

Brandon Williams got the majority of PT over Jernigan last year, he's also on the last year of his deal & the Ravens obviously didn't want to sign him or didn't think they could justify giving him the $ he'd ask for. They traded the Eagles their compensatory pick, this is the 1st year teams are allowed to do that.

For the Eagles they replace Bennie Logan on another 1-year deal. I'm not a fan of Roseman's offseason band-aid approach.

according to PFF
Jernigan was on the field for over 500 snaps... and started in all 16 games
and wouldn't he line up next to Williams not in place of williams

Not sure we're talking about the same guy

All the reports I saw didn't have him starting that many games.

The Ravens already had money committed to the interior of the line and didn't think they could afford this guy when his contract is up after this season. They felt they had a surplus of defensive linemen and they moved him to move up quite a bit in the 3rd round.

As for Howie's moves, I'm okay with them generally. Can't give the full verdict until I see if any of them pay off and then, more importantly, what that translates into players they can keep after the season. A lot of one year contracts here and while I'm fine with gambling with players who should be motivated for a contract, it is a lot of band-aiding.

Jernigan, 24, started 15 games for the Ravens last season and had the second-most sacks on the defense (five). He notched 13 sacks over his three seasons in Baltimore...

Considering Baltimore just gave fellow defensive lineman Brandon Williams a lucrative five-year contract, it would be difficult to retain Jernigan beyond 2017, the final year of his rookie contract.

By trading him now, the Ravens get instant value for his departure. They could get a compensatory pick if Jernigan left in next year’s free agency if he got a big enough contract and playing time, but that wouldn’t come until 2019.

Cool, I had read it that he started 15 games over 3 years, so I'll certainly take the 15 last season. I know his production dropped off in the second half of the year and that was one red flag, but I'm happy to have a shot to try this guy out and see if he works.
