Typical bait and switch. No Tinglehoff, but now get Ron Davis instead. Bastards.

I'm on the phone with the travel agent right now and I'm switching my flights accordingly. Phew.

You don't even have to attend, just call that number and order what you want.

I'm not sure why, but this is so disappointing to me. Some big name guys... why do they do this? The fun of autographs for me as a kid was the hunt. Walking down a row and paying somebody to sign stuff...

I didn't even really care for autographs when I was a kid, let alone now. I guess to each their own, and I guess some people just like meeting the actual person. I did get to see Tug McGraw when they were opening the JC Penny's at Christiana Mall back in the day. We may have gotten an autograph (not sure we did) but we did get to take a Polaroid picture with the Tugger - I think we still have that somewhere in the family. That would be cool I guess, getting the selfie with Tinglehoff.

There are some pretty hardcore autograph collectors out there. I don't usually go out and pursue autographs in person anymore. I'll buy something that I find that is already signed, like a 1974 team Canada program or a 1992 Minnesota Twins bat, signed by the team, or a doll with Dizzy Dean's autograph. Mostly for inventory to sell. I have seen people pay over $4000 for multiple autographs from Cal Ripken, in the past. And then add the items to their collection. Some want in person autographs of Hall of Famers, some want to add signatures to a team ball or photo, etc.

The first autograph I ever got in person was Roger Maris in 1983. Still have it, and I could sell it for over $400 if I wanted, but that's probably the only one I'll keep, at least for now.

Yeah, I know, people collect anything. For me, if I didn't get the autograph myself, I don't really want it.

My two favorite autographs as a kid were: Bob Hope in the Philly airport standing by himself and Johnny Rutherford signed my cast on my broken arm in first grade.

For me, I prefer a picture with the guy. Ultimate would be a picture with him and then have him autograph it. That would require two meetings.
I achieved that with Joe Morgan, Junior Seau, Bob Gibson, Johhny Bench, Goose Gossage, Lou Brock, Tom Seaver, and Todd Frazier.

I'll ask Bob Gibson if you stalked him or not?

You aren't likely to get more than a couple of words out of him.

I'll flash him my keychain from his restaurant in Omaha. Heard he will talk about that. One of the vendors I know, brings him in for the shows and I sold a menu to him.

Interesting about Gibson, was that he liked basketball more than baseball. He went to Creighton because Indiana had their quota of 1 Black player. He filled out a questionnaire for the Minneapolis Lakers, but they did not respond, so the rest is history.

I see a lot of people do that. Players generally charge more at shows.
The best placed autograph I've seen, were women with Fuzzy Thurston's autograph on the crease of their cleavage, with a big heart. Every once in a while you would see one walk by at Lambeau Field.
Similar to the Jason Giambi below.

We actually went to the US Curling Championships back in 2014 or so (they had it in PA that year) and I have a photo of my kids with John Shuster, the skip from the US Men's Olympic team from that year. Kids got a kick out it. I don't think we asked for an autograph.
