Possibly. I wonder why he is limiting his selection to 'smaller market' teams though. I get the West Coast thing for him. But wouldn't he want to actually have a chance to win something meaningful?
He still has LA, San Fran, and Chicago in the running too, not necessarily small teams there (Texas is still in the running - wasn't sure if they are small market or not).

Odd about Seattle - Nelson Cruz is still there, no? Ohtani going to an American League team makes sense since he could DH on off days and be his own DH, but Cruz was a full time DH last year, would that change?

Cruz is only under contract through next season, so I would have to think he would be on his way out after that if they land Ohtani.

I could google this question, but I won't. Who is playing RF for Seattle? Cruz could play RF so they could keep his bat in the line-up.

Although I do have doubts as to whether a team really will let a player like Ohtani pitch and DH long term. I can just imagine that the first sign of fatigue on the mound that the team would yank him out of the DH spot to give him some rest (not that the DH spot requires much physical endurance at all, but whatever).

Um...Ruth actually began his career in his native Baltimore. He didn't get to Boston until the Red Sox bought his contract from the then-minor league Orioles....

Unless the Angels found a way to clone Mike trout I don't see much improvement in their lineup so far. Even if they could clone him they still need about 10 good pitchers.... If I remember right their ERA leader last year had something like a 4.6 ERA....(Don't hold me to that but it was ridiculously high.)

Thank Goodness for Seattle as they will have someone they can still beat.....

Yeah, you finished a whopping 2 games ahead of them last season. :coffee:

I want to root for the Mariners... I really do
But I have a difficult time endorsing such a poorly run organization
It's one of THE worst run MLB franchises of all time
excluding a small window from 1995 to 2001 (The Pat Gillick window)

Beyond that it's been a train wreck

Having Upton a whole year will help the Angels lineup, but too much money is tied up in Pujols to do much more, I knew that signing was a disaster when they did it.

But what will it do to Verlander?

Ya, that had red flags all over it.....He's still a RBI machine but odd enough is a dead spot in the batting order as far as other offensive contributions.

One article I read suggested that the Angels should go to a 6 day rotation where he'd pitch then DH a few games in between his next start. The article suggested that because of the injury history of the Angels starters, everyone would benefit from more time off.

Don't know if he could actually be successful both ways but should be interesting to watch.....

Oh and BTW, "Suck it Seattle"!!!!

Yankees have apparently traded for Giancarlo Stanton.

In major news, the Tigers signed P Mike Fiers to a one year deal for $6 million. Reloading, not rebuilding. :) :ohno:

Morris and Trammel in the Hall, is the only good news for the Tigers.

There plenty of argument for Trammel being a top 10 all-time short stop, and Morris was the best pitcher in the 1980's with an all-time performance in a World Series game 7.

I don't know how anyone can stomach being a Marlins fan (assuming that anyone actually is a Marlins fan). There will be triple A teams better than they are this year, and it's not the first time or even the second time they've decided to be really, really bad just so they can make more money (note, not get better or get a lot of young prospects, just to make more money).

With that said, Stanton is in a great spot now. Hitting in that miniature ballpark that is Yankee Stadium, he should, minimum, hit 50 HR's every year now - this makes him a HOF'er somewhere in the future. He's set up his career very nicely.

Marlins are looking like the KC Athletics of the 1950's. Yankees minor league affiliate.
