It has begun.

Tough to pick between Germany and Brazil, with Germany the favorite after winning the last Cup. Spain still might surprise after their coaching change. Belgium as the sleeper.

Someone needs to recall the US TV ratings from the last few Cups to see how this one compares. Will be interesting to see the effect with no US team in it.

I just flipped by the game between Morocco and Iran on Fox.

The three letter abbreviation for Morocco in their graphic is MAR.

Where are they getting the A?

These are the things that keep me awake at night. :pissed:

Blame Frenchy
“MAR” comes from the French spelling: MAROC.

The old cohort of the Moroccan intelligentsia is still affected by the French culture. That’s why French is widely used in our country.

That’s one of the traces of the French Protectorate.

Hard to root for either of these.

Maracca (did I get that right, Gil?) is the easy pick here.

Now if you want the hard one, what if Iran played Saudi Arabia?

Oh my. I happened to turn on Fox while looking for the US Open. Portugal's third goal to tie up their game with Spain 3-3 was a thing of beauty. Free kick from Ronaldo that he bent around the wall. He may be an arse, but that was pretty. Hat trick.

That's been the only game worth watching so far, and certainly a gem at that. Part of the problem of the World Cup, there's a lot of dreg games. Only going to get worse when they move to 48 teams. Good game this weekend, though, as Germany/Mexico is a matchup on Sunday.

A guy on a sports radio station here, didn't know that the USA wasn't in the World Cup this year. I watch golf every weekend, soccer when the World Cup or Olympics come around.

Gil, no need to mention golf when 89 asks about sports. ;)

So Germany loses to the Mexicans, Brazil is tied by the Swiss, and Argentina is tied by Iceland .

I’m all in for Serbia now!

Apparently the always well-behaved fans of Mexico have resorted to calling the other team gay slurs. The national federation issued a plea to “STOP SCREAMING FAGGOT”. Mexicans are awesome. Bags of piss. Gay slurs. Who wouldn’t want tens of millions of them in their country illegally?

Did you see any bags of piss being thrown at Michael Irvin when he was nearly paralyzed on the Vet Stadium turf?

I didn't think so.

Everyone was too busy cheering. :coffee:

Back to the Mexico win, saw a clip where a German paper said Mexico can't get over this wall and showed the German goalie in front of a brickwall in front of a goal. Two things:

1) Germany lost.
2) Kinda ironic considering Germany is being over run by thousands of muslins. :dunce:

Germans: Good at engineering; bad with soft skills, particularly humor. Since forever.
