I realize that I have a bias in this, but fuck Urban Meyer and fuck Ohio State. Two coaches in a row who cover their sleaziness with sanctimony.

Re: Ohio State puts Urban Meyer on administrative leave
I doubt that they will but I hope Ohio State has the balls to keep him. The more I hear/read/see about this the more I think this kind of stuff has gotten entirely out of hand. So now a coach is supposed to be fired because someone told his wife that they were abused? This is ridiculous.
My guess is Meyer really did follow the procedure he was supposed to follow given the circumstances. But we live in a time where that doesn't matter.

Many of the coaches wives knew about it, I'm sure the AD and other athletic employees knew about it, why don't we contact all of their employers and try to get them fired, too?
No, let's send Meyer to the guillotine because he makes a lot of money coaching a game and also fvck Ohio State.

Meyer admitted yesterday that he knew about it in 2015. It wasn't just coaches' wives.
He says he reported it according to protocol at the time. If so... there should be a paper trail that vindicates him.

Re: Ohio State puts Urban Meyer on administrative leave
I think Ohio State will be OK regardless. They are in the best position in the country when it comes to looking at how many NFL prospects a State produces and how many Power 5 conference teams are in that State (1). They are #3 in athletic department revenue behind only Texas and Texas A&M.Pwns wrote:I was beginning to wonder if I was the only non-Ohio State fan that thought this way.JohnStOnge wrote:I doubt that they will but I hope Ohio State has the balls to keep him. I frankly think that it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they could take Saban away from Alabama if they decide they want to go for that. They have more revenue than Alabama and Saban is a midwestern guy whose first head coaching job was at Toledo.
Ohio State is a plum job and they can pretty close to get whoever they want if they decide to really go for it.

Re: Ohio State puts Urban Meyer on administrative leave
They have more money than Alabama does. They have the best situation in the country in terms of how many NFL caliber players their State produces combined with how many power 5 conference teams there are in the State. They have higher average home game attendance than Alabama does. Saban played his college football at Kent State. His first head coaching job was at Toledo.Skjellyfetti wrote:JohnStOnge wrote: I frankly think that it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they could take Saban away from Alabama if they decide they want to go for that.
The latest thing I could find on how many NFL players played high school in each State is from 2016:
http://www.maxpreps.com/news/rDS7KHYixE ... -state.htm
In that one, 94 played high school football in Ohio while 88 played high school football in Alabama. And Alabama has Auburn to compete with. Ohio State has nobody.
I'm not saying it would be a sure thing. But it's not beyond the realm of possibility that Ohio State could take Saban away from Alabama if they found themselves without a head coach, decided they wanted to take a shot at doing that, and were willing to pay the buy out they'd have to pay. They are one of the few schools in the country who could "outbid" Alabama. And Ohio is where Saban's playing and coaching roots are.

Texas fans thought the same thing in 2014. Didn't work out.
AD revenue is only a piece of the puzzle for elite Power 5 programs.

Re: Ohio State puts Urban Meyer on administrative leave
Ohio State has a lot of other problems right now. If they let Meyer stay, the optics will be horrible.
Given the scandals at Michigan St. and Ohio St., which are far more egregious than the Sandusky scandal, I have to wonder where Jim Delany and Mark Emmert are. They seem to be in hiding.

Re: Ohio State puts Urban Meyer on administrative leave
Yeah this will be an interesting story. From what I heard on the radio, people think Meyer is done but the real battle is over the $38M or so OSU still owes him if he isn't fired with cause. If Meyer followed protocol and the higher ups were cool with the wife beating assistant to remain on staff (heard the assistant is the grandson of some former well liked coach) then he will probably get to keep the money.Skjellyfetti wrote:Meyer admitted yesterday that he knew about it in 2015.
