So here we are...
September 1st roster cuts

and now the Super Bowl Champion Eagles will experience the culling effect
Pretty much every player they cut and designate to the practice squad will get signed by another team

This is the problem with winning a Super Bowl - you can no longer sneak your quality cuts through your system
The roster molestation from the NFL bottom feeders is coming - welcome to the NOW Champs

Huh? Who are the Eagles going to cut that's going to be a big deal? Heck, we're keeping the Australian rugby guy who's only played football for like 2 months. There's plenty of room on this team. Darnell Pumphery gets cut this year, but that's because he's not very good. Same for former Redskins Matt Jones. I don't believe there is a big name at all being cut by the Eagles this year. Not sure what you're concerned about.

It's about quietly working guys through the system

It's not a fishing expedition it's a historical NFL fact
Super Bowl winners get their rosters culled by the bottom feeder teams

It decimated Denver's special teams after they beat Carolina
and ended up costing the special teams coach his job that next year

It's just a reality of NFL football
It might not happen to the Eagles
maybe they really don't have any talent beyond the 53 man roster



However there's usually 22 guys -extra guys- that each team would like to keep in the system
practice squads depth chart etc.

The God, Howie Roseman, wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen.

until recently the Patriots got fed up and started targeting and signing Bills players

Outside of the Eagles's 53 there's not a whole lot there. The attrition you refer to comes more from guys on the 53 starting to make bigger salaries and you can't keep all of them. Howie did some magic this year so that's not the case.

Yep. Gonna have to pull some big rabbits out of his cap when the Wentz rookie contract goes away. They’re golden for now though.

Yes Sir...
There are certain players that develop more slowly and are are seen as promising projects
and many of them have significant value to the team as a whole

Teams that aren't winning as much have little difficulty keeping these developmental guys
Teams that win super bowls get pilfered and scouted and picked over

It's the nature of having large rosters in a volatile sport where players go down frequently
and winning draws attention

David Bakhtiari was headed to the practice squad his rookie season
But " (ding) starting tackle Brian Bulaga got hurt in pre-season... so Bakhtiari got moved up on the depth chart

Today he is their best offensive lineman - even better than Bulaga who he was 2 depth chart spaces behind

6 years ago he was headed to the practice squad
he would have been available to be signed by ANY TEAM

No one's hiding anything, it's all there to see - everybody can see everyone else's practice squad players too. Who says the Eagles have the best practice squad players? Maybe they suck at their own practice squad but are good at raiding other teams's squads? At the end of the day, each year it's about getting the 53 man roster correct.

The Eagles are likely going to retain a giant rugby player on the OL with less than a year’s experience in football. Are we really worried about the guys who were less compelling than the Australian project?

I don’t think winning or losing really factors in, considering the Eagles have been in the playoffs 11 times this millennium. We’re just generally a more passionate and educated fan base than say a Seattle, Tampa, etc (ie. small markets and such). We don’t really get phased by a change in the wind.
