The fact that you know her correct spelling is a little disturbing.

So why'd you put rumor in the title? :suspicious:

I don't get this hire - what's the allure of Kingsbury? He never had a winning record in conference in six straight seasons at Texas Tech, despite having Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes on some of his rosters.

  Nice red herring, bro.

Baker Mayfield never played a meaningful snap for Tech. He lost his job to Davis Webb and knew he was never going to see the field once Mahomes hit town, so he bolted like a little bitch.

The issue at Tech wasn't offense. The issue at Tech is, has been, and always will be convincing Big 12-quality defensive players to come to Lubbock Texas. They all want to go to UT, OU or Alabama or A&M--an entirely unlevel competitive playing field when it comes to attracting players. OFFENSIVE players loved playing for Kliff because he sent a lot of them to the NFL...Defensive players didn't have that certainty (here's a hint: the NEW Tech coach will have all the same problems without the legacy of having been a Tech legend....)

In the NFL (a much more level playing field, as long as you can identify talent) Kliff won't have that problem. He just needs to ensure he hires a good DC and draft well.

Dude, talk about misinformation. Mayfield was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week as a walk-on freshman starter at Texas Tech, and started the first 5 games of that year (all wins), including a win over at the time #24 TCU. I'm sure one of the snaps he took in one of those games were meaningful.

As for the defensive players, it's not like the Big 12 is full of good defensive players - no one in the Big 12 has a great defense (oh, and 'Bama and Texas A&M are SEC schools, they don't count in this). So if no one was playing good defense in the Big 12 anyway why did it matter that Texas Tech didn't play good defense? He was 19-35 in Big 12 play over his 6 years. That's not even close to .500 in a conference where his awesome offense got to play against tons of teams with no defense.

How does one immediately hire a guy who got canned at his alma mater?

This ^ is a legit observation...
Auburn won it all with Cam Newton and just above average defense
and Cam is 50% the QB that Mahomes is

Hell Stanford was extremely dangerous with middling talent and Andrew Luck

I said “Big 12 quality” (as in P5 caliber). Mayfield couldn’t win his job back. From Davis Fucking Webb. He’s a massive head case who was universally disliked by his teammates. And you’re incorrect if you think nobody plays defense in the B12.

A large percentage of America was just “certain” that Mahomes was a “system” QB who would fail miserably in the pros.
