Ho hum, Eagles trade away a 6th round pick in 2020 for Bears RB Jordan Howard.

For both teams...
The Bears were going to release him - The kid didn't understand Nagy's offense
and fell off the depth chart

He's got talent

....aaaaand, Lane Johnson squashes the gnat with a sledgehammer.
This is what I meant — every training camp we have all of these ex-players come and shake our hands, wish us good luck. Then, they just go out and just talk hate. I feel there is a lot of envy, jealously, and I see a lot of fakery. It isn’t just me — a lot of other teammates see it too. You would think the best quarterback in franchise history would try to build up a young man that looks up to him instead of always criticizing him, critiquing him and wishing he would fail so he could be the missing link and feel better himself.

The truth of it is you should be looking for a QB every two or three years just as a matter of fact...
The teams that aren't doing this - and haven't properly done this - suffer for it
Example: NY Giants

Always be looking for your next quarterback !!!

If Carolina
and Tampa Bay
and Washington
and Detroit
and Miami
and the Chargers
and Tennessee
and Jacksonville

don't draft a QB in this draft
you are looking at teams that do not understand what is happening and how it works
Always be looking for your next QB

Jeezus
Russell Wilson was a 3rd rounder
Drew Brees went in the 2nd round
Brett Favre was a 2nd round pick

it's not like you need a number one pick to get a QB that can win games
there are Brad Johnson's all over the place in the draft

And Harvard’s Wonderlic Hero of 2004, 7th- round pick Ryan Fitzpatrick, is about to play his 15th pro season for his 8th team. Although he’s never made the playoffs.

Cams contract is up in 2020. I expect Carolina to go with a QB in the first or second round. .

Btw, Howie keeps being a genius and gets Jernigan back on a 1 year deal at a steep discount.

Sweet. Jernigan should be good for one sack and 16 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties this season.

Another day, another genius pickup by Howie Roseman. Picks up Zach Brown on a one year deal and $3M to fill the hole at LB. Howie is a certifiable wizard.

Meh. This is a big downgrade from Jordan Hicks. When you get benched by the Redskins in 2018... yikes. At least it's only a year and $3M down the drain, but we weren't going to be able to keep Jordan Hicks for that much. This was a cap-casualty face-save attempt after the Cards showed Hicks the money.

Genius pickup..?
Brown has been cut or released by 5 teams in his 8 years
Every team in the league had an opportunity to pick up Brown
including teams with huge cap space and a need at LB

Agreed - Howie is a master at this
but at most this qualifies as "depth at LB"

I appreciate the enthusiasm

It's LB, you only need two of them on the field most of the time anyway. He's more than capable and he's a cap fit.

I wouldn't overspend at LB'er either, and as much as I liked Hicks, the only guy who was injured more often than Hicks was Peters. Can't overpay for this position in this NFL and you certainly can't do it with a guy that can't stay on the field.

I can certainly agree with that ^ assessment of the LB position in todays NFL
Too many teams spend too much on the traditional LB position

there are still teams that over value positions based on ancient NFL metrics
and middle linebacker is one of them

Only if you're asking your middle LB to do all the things Bobby Wagner or Luke Kuechly do
should you spend big

It does vary by team as to how important the LB spot is. I think the Steelers are one of those teams that feature the LB. And like you said, for the very small few stud players you can pay them more. But yes, generally, with 5 or 6 DB's on the field, or another edge rusher, the LB position has gotten squeezed.

agreed,
I was looking at a defensive diagram identifying responsibilities and coverage areas
and a defense with a single middle LB (like a dime configuration)

The middle LB has about a 3 yard circle to cover...
Stop the run and if it's not a run stand there in this circle

Not exactly your best use of $12 Mil
however the Charges used this defense to pretty good success last season

Wentz extended for 4 years, $128M, $107.9M guaranteed, through 2024 season.

Now try to stay healthy, gingerale.
