I haven't attended many boxing matches, so my list is short.

Scott LeDoux - Heavyweight, fought some of the greats like Foreman, Norton, Leon Spinks, Holmes
1982-10-27 Marlo Malino debut Schollander Pavillion, Red River Valley Fair, West Fargo

Larry LaCoursiere - Nice outdoor match in LaCoursiere's hometown, lost some big matches with Julio Cesar Chavez and Hector Camacho Jr and a few others.
1992-08-02 Bobby Butters 8 0 0 McCabe's Pub, Hastings

Virgil Hill - former Olympic Silver Medalist and WBA Light Heavyweight Champ
1993-11-09 Saul Montana 21 3 0 Fargodome, Fargo

Never been to one.

I did attend one WWF match in Salisbury MD. Andre the Giant bodyslammed Big John Studd. That was a big night on Delmarva!

Unfortunately, I never got to meet Willie, as he was already 47 when my mom was born (she was #14 of 14 kids), and died in his early 60s of cirrhosis of the liver from decades of alcoholism.

1988 Cheney High School Smoker.

I fought a gigantic and over-weight hick named Vince.

I must have trained for days, running stairs, working out on my buddy’s punching bag, sit ups, push-ups etc.

IIRC they were 15 ounce gloves. My obviously experienced friends laughed. “It won’t hurt to get hit with those...you’re more agile and in shape (these were my wrestling days)...he probably won’t land a single blow.

Well the bell rang and old Vince marched straight across the ring and popped me with a blow that sent me reeling. I basically ran all around the ring from him for the remainder of the first 1 minute round. It hurt...real bad.

But I settled down after my corner (all of my wrestling teammates) kept telling me to quit being a pussy. By the 3rd I was whooping up on old Vince pretty good, landing some blows, and even gave him a standing 8 count.

I knew I had won. The announcer, who was a local TV news personality, named Randy Shaw, even winked at me (possibly homo) as he was about to raise my hand for victory. But no, he raised both our hands calling it a draw.

I was jobbed!



That’s the only boxing match I’ve ever been to.

Went 15-9 over two years boxing, including winning the state AAU title as a 13-year old in my weight class. Have never been to a “pro” fight...been to literally hundreds of “smokers”.

I have a couple friends who used to fight in them when they were in school at Western down in Dillon in the 80’s.

Went to a black tie dinner at the Harvard Club of Boston with my best college friend and his dad. Main entertainment was a series of 3-round bouts with local Irish kids beating the crap out of each other. The steaks and Scotch were great. One of the best nights of my youth.

My Great Grandfather Boxed in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, around 1894. Found some newspaper articles on some of the fights. He was listed as a 165 lb heavyweight.

I've been to a couple of WWE cards, including the one in San Diego just after my deployment ended where The Rock came out of nowhere to beat the living daylights out of Jonathan Coachman for his abuse of Eugene. That was the night Eugene got permission to use the Rock Bottom as one of his moves.

I've attended several flat-track roller derby bouts, but not recently. My favorites were the Mathemortician (number pi) and the 4Closer (number 44), both with the former Sacred City Derby Girls organization. (No, I've never been to a banked-track co-ed roller derby bout, though I used to love watching the L.A. T-Birds vs. the Bay Area Bombers on TV back in the day with Ralphie Valladeres leading the way for the T-Birds.)

I've also been to one entry-level MMA card featuring one of my favorite Sirens (she got caught by a rear naked choke), but not UFC. I've also never been to a professional (or even amateur) boxing card. They're not all that common in the vicinity of Lodi.

None. And I'm actually proud to say that. I have never understood why people like to watch that kind of stuff. Same with the MMA stuff. Why?

I guess it's not as bad as liking to watch golf is though.

There's people that go nuts over fishing, and watching fishing on TV. I've fished many times, always catch lots of fish. Kind of got boring after a while. Rather just take a boat out and enjoy the scenery, or paddle a boat for exercise. I do like to see a 50" muskie swim under my dock, kind of cool watching the different fish swim by. My neighbor catches at least a dozen muskie every summer.

If I ever need to fish for food, I know how to do it, same with hunting. Just have more entertaining things to do for fun.

The closest was a pay-per-view event at a high school gym for a Tyson fight. So I paid an admission fee and sat in the bleachers but watched a televised broadcast on a screen.

I have been to one WWE event at the Spectrum in Philly and some smaller wrestling matches in Atlantic City casinos.

Pro Wrestling in the early 80's was a different animal than it is today. Had some legendary characters like Andre the Giant, Chief Jay Strongbow, George The Animal Steele, etc. Complete freaks compared to the steroid abusers of today. I wasn't all that into it but a bunch of friends wanted to go so we rented a passenger van and went as a group (although some asshole threw up in the back of the van from Boones Farm ).

The AC casino events were free tix that somebody got and we watched for a while in between gambling.

My cousin Jeff McCracken fought Thomas Hearns.....he got worked but took Hearns 8 rounds


Been to some Todd Foster fights in Montana, played football with him in high school. Foster won a silver medal in the Olympics and fought Hector Macho Camacho and lost. Hes kind of a douche so I like watching him get beat.

Saw Tyson fight Donovan Ruddock when I was in college.

Only boxer worth watching now days is Vasyl Lomachenko

While I don't like all of the newbie wrestlers, I'd hardly call Kacy Catanzaro a "steroid abuser...."
